Hi.
I’ve added some new plants yesterday. Today my water is cloudy and when I tested water there was low level of nitrite. The plants came in the post and couple were a little worse for wear and a couple of bits had rotted in the night which I’ve removed.

I know I made a mistake by washing a sponge that was covering the filter intake because it was grubby and planting the new plants kicked up a lot of crud. I thought it was only small so I washed in tap water but wonder if I’ve messed up the balance 😢.

I’ve dosed with prime and some stability. A few fish fish looked a little unhappy but they all look a little better now. Didn’t help I kept putting hands in to get rid of dead plants.

Is there anymore I need to do?
My feeling is it should be ok but wondered if anything else I can do to help it.

I also added root tablets when I added the plants.

Just do a big water change and gravel clean the substrate any day you have an ammonia or nitrite reading above 0ppm, or a nitrate reading above 20ppm.

It should settle down in a few days.
