Big River South

Crise - i would only be willing to pay about $30 for a bit of wrapping paper - and only that much because i'm stupid.
These are 3D silicon structures and you can use them as your filter or to hide equipment they look so good too. I reckon you could easily spend £300 on hard scape and not get anywhere near in a big tank. In fact I reckon 300 is what I’d tell my wife I’d spent lol 😂

Little update on a few things...

With the big Rio in the same area of the house than the small Rio i thought id try and link them someway in doing a similar setup.

I was going to go down a different route and do a full on cichlid style tank design but with me recently rescaping the 180 from a breeder to a community tank its inspired me to do the 450 likewise.

180 got rescaped about 7/8 weeks ago with a nice chunky piece of driftwood and i planted around the background quite heavily. Just love watching this tank with the colours and the movement.

Got some giant vallis coming for the 450 to fill left hand corner. Ive added more "Bocourti" friendly plants in crypts (Wendtii,Beckettii,Pontederiifolia) and 2 or 3 types of swords. im also trialing some hygrophila siamensis 53b and Polysperma.

Fish are looking good and seem to like the new set up:hyper:

Tough getting pictures of these guys because their tiny and my phone struggles to focus lol. Think these are around 2 months old and im now trying to introduce new foods to them.

What are the dimensions of your 450 ?

151x51x66cm (60'x20'x26')
26 inches tall? Is it difficult reaching the plants ?
The reason I'm asking is that i'm considering a pair of 400-450 gallon aquariums - my thought has been 120x36x24 (inches) and 72x48x21 (inches) - l,w,h

with large, wide tanks that are against a wall, it's difficult to reach the plants at the back even with a ladder

Yea I will leave 2 feet behind the aquariums so i can get a stool back there... I have a 24 inch tank now (120) and cannot reach the plants in the back well so i learned my lesson.
What are you planning stocking wise? Got plenty of options with 400 plus gallons

Looking fantastic :) has the smaller Boucourti always had the split in the dorsal fin or is that recent?

In one i will have loaches (clown/zebra) and angelfish with some larger tetra - probably serpae and black phantom - but the tetra selection is still open. I will also have pleco (bn, l204, gold nugget, blue phantom, L095) and Krobia Xinguensis. open issue is platydoras amatulus

In the other which will have very low tds I will have geo (probalby winmilleri but maybe altifrons or sveni); rams (mostly gold), pleco and sterbai (might remove sterbai as 82 is pushing their limit) and schools of cardinals and rummynose. Some open questions are cupido and smudge spot cory .
--
Two open issue are conflicts between pleco and loaches (esp clowns) as well as warm temp for sterbai cory. 82 is the top of the range for sterbai - i suppose i could run the ram tank at 80 during the winter and 82 during the summer - or i might move the sterbai to the guppy tank - i currently have about 20 sterbai across two tanks but want to merge them together and separate them from the loaches.

All looking really good.
I was interested to see how your cichlids got on with your plants, because apparently the popular notion is that you can't have plants in a tank with cichlids, especially the larger ones.
