Mosquito Fish.

Will you please clarify? That sounds interesting.
Well, we don't have mosquito fish here, but we have a similar species, plains killifish, which is adapted to intermittent streams. When the water level goes down, they can survive in very shallow, oxygen-starved, warm water for quite a long time. If things get really bad, they can even burrow into the mud and stay alive for a while, until the next rain storm renews the creek.

I'm not sure, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that mosquitofish are similarly adapted. I understand the urge to save suffering critters, but if it were me, I would probably let nature take its course. Nothing is wasted in nature, and if they can't survive the low water level, they probably are introduced and not really meant to be there anyway.

You may also want to cosider whether is it worth to keep them.
Since most of us have limited number of tanks, we can't have too many fish.
Choose only fish that you really like and worth to keep.

In the past, I had 4-5 tanks but now I reduced to only 2 tanks.
And I only keep fish that I really like and I gave away fish that are not so nice.

I once had killifish from the river next to my house, I just put him in a tank with no aeration and they all survive for about a month now

I feel like fish that had been adapted in the polluted river (there’s even a toilet next to the rover and yeah poop there too) are quite stronger due to the evolution of the fish, they have been exposed to chemical everyday and yep......I never aerate that tank.

Just because it's on your property also does not necessarily mean it is legal to collect fish.

Check with your local DNR about collecting laws for your state :)

And if your pond has dense plants, many of the mosquito fish will survive just fine even with the predators around.

I found one of them... the rest had died due to a swim bladder disease.

Having serious second thoughts on whether or not these are mosquito fish. I will upload a photo tomorrow. I got it to eat some Omega One Tropical Flakes. The more I look at him, the more I don't think he's a mosquito fish...

You may have discovered a new fish! Waddya gonna name it? Who chooses anyway?
Fishforumus Lawrenceus Phoenixkingus.........emperor of the north gate, husband of any girl he can get his fins on, father of thousands of eggs......would be my suggestion.

They are classed as an invasive fish here in Queensland and must be humanly destroyed if caught. Our creeks are full of them. They eat the eggs of natives and invade the waterways. They are an aggressive fish so don’t put in with any other fish. I got 2 put in with my blue eyes order and didn’t know until colin confirmed what they were for me. They were huge nippers and even nipped one of my guppy males tails to the point he couldn’t swim and passed. It wasn’t until I saw the girls coming out and watched them chase the others around nipping them that I realised what they were about. They were gone straight away

I can't find him i the tank now. He's gone! I know some of you may call me a liar, but I can post another picture of the exact tank he was in. Maybe he jumped out? I fear that he is in my betta tank, as that's the tank you see to the right in that picture. I really have no clue where he is. He was there this morning - thoughts?
