Found a Dog!

Yesterday as I was working in the yard with my dog, Calvin, this other dog wandered up to us. He was just a puppy, and had on a collar with no tags, so I decided to keep him outside and see if anyone showed up looking for him. No one ever did.... so I brought him inside and such and he has spent the night. We'll continue to look for his owners, he's a lovely dog. He's under a year old IMO, very well-behaved, adorable, healthy looking, and gets along with my dog like peaches and cream. They've been tearing the house apart since he arrived.

I think he's a boxer cross... very cute.

He's even cuter than this now... he isn't so worried. I know it seems silly, but look at his "eyebrows"! He's very worried about being lost. And now he's not so much, so he is cuter. Ok, ignore me, maybe I'm crazy. )

He's adorable! In the 2nd picture it looks like he's making himself comfortable.

Julie, I would says congrats on the new addition to your family but it may be too soon for that.

He is adorable! Do you plan on giving him a permanent home if his parents can't be found?

Hi julie,I'm a bit curious if he's not your dog and you reckon his owners (assuming he hasn't been dumped and he seems a really nice dog and in great condition and you say well trained as well so I would find that hard to believe) must be in the area, is it really a great idea to have him tied up? Dogs are great navigators, perhaps his owners are really concerned.

Sorry to be a kill joy but my dog used to sometimes run off and if I had ever found someone with her tied up in their garden (I know your intentions are good) but I'd be a little angry...

If I were you, I would make a couple of "FOUND" signs and post them around the neighborhood. I found a beautiful Persian cat that I knew must belong to someone. I made several signs and posted them in various places. Two months later (!) I finally got that call. They couldn't believe she was still alive. They came to pick her up, and the daughter cried immediately after reuniting with her cat.

Put up signs. If no one calls, then you did all that you could to reunite the pup with his family.

i would keep him tied up and plant posters everywhere
if they ask you why he is tied (i'm sure these are your intentions) explain to them how dangerous it is for a dog to wander and you couldn't bear to find this little guy flat on the road somewhere
i found a very well behaved dog once
it was only a few years old and it had gotten out of its yard
the thing followed me (dispite my efforts to lose him and me continuously yelling "GO HOME!") for at least an hour
well it kept stopping traffic and weaving through cars
so i took my chances at getting bit (i know i'm stupid) and checked his collar
sure enough i got lucky enough to get a phone number
and i leashed it and waited for the mans responce
he came
took the dog
jumped into the vehicle without a word
and left me

i wanted to scream "YOUR WELCOME! " as he drove away

Sorry to disagree, but dogs that young run off a lot.....his chances at that age of never returning home are pretty great......None the less someone else will snatch that cutie up in a heartbeat and will not bother trying to find the owners. But you are a caring person and are trying to locate the owners.

I would put an ad in the Exchange (you have that over there?) and put up the posters everywhere and keep him just how you are!! You can even check the local pounds and see if anyone has called in asking about that dog!?

He's lucky that you found him julie.

I would bring him into the local pound or shelter because many dog owners have a chip "installed" in their dog.

It's very cheap, and in many cases, shelters will do it for a small donation.

When I adopted my dog, right before we left the shelter, they injected the small computer chip under his skin, on the scruff of his neck.

If he is lost, all the shelters have what looks like a grocery store pricing gun. They scan the back of the dogs neck, and the owner's info shows up on a computer.

Hi everyone. First of all, I want to say that he has been returned to his home.

Second of all - Let me just say that I have rescued more than one lost dog in the past, and all have been either returned to their joyful owners or to a new family. Thank you for the concern everyone, but I thought it through before tying him up. I live next to a very busy street - one of the busiest in the town - and since he is a puppy, I did not want to see him get hit. After I waited a few hours with him in my yard, I took him for a walk and let him lead me wherever he wanted to go. He went all over the place, but never took me to his house or even anywhere near. I was going to put up found signs today, take him to get scanned this afternoon, and had already called the shelters and vet clinics to see if he was reported lost. I knew he was a lovely dog, and had to be missed.

His owner was extremely excited to see him, as he was to see her. We didn't accept the reward, it was just great to see them reunited. He has a brother at home, so they'll be glad to see each other too.

What about my dog?

She was found roaming around the house of a well known german breeder. We had to go all the way to Germany to get her. She was in really good condition and we paid 350 dollars for Lola. Very well kept and the owner had hundreds of dachshund awards and a portrait of Hitler. Lola is a pure bred wire haired dachshund. She is specifically bred for chasing down animals in thorny brush. Her wire hair allows her to do this. We had to wait till she was 3 months old to buy her though for best condition. She was approved medically by phizer. Her family name is von rheblic as this was the owners name from the beginning of the dachshund breeders.

Now, Lola sits on the couch and sleeps. Or she chases the cat. Lola will always be in good hands though. If we ever see a lost dog, we will pick it up.
