Oxygen Supply

Ok ... ill try again lol ...
Do you have your tanks air supply running all the time?

yes i have it running a bubble screen on my goldfish tank
some times it is used to run filter and to turn the surface of the water over
how is the air going in to the tank

Do you like what ive done with the background? lol ...
I thought id cut out some holidays pics of the kids & attatch it

Aslong as theres a filter agitating the surface theres no need for it but it wont do any harm leaving it on so its up to you.

let me get this right, is there C02 running on this tank?

there isn't any plants, there doesn't need to be any C02 in this tank.

rwhats your plan for this tank once it is cycled / matured? ie..what fish do you expect to keep? out of interest.. whats the depth / thickness of that tank? will u b keepin live plants?

regarding your query...
theres co2. o2. and then theres air (mixture of both).
you have stated you have controls for o2 and co2. now, the majority of us on this forum will have the odd air pump which simply pumps a supply of the air in your room into the tank making sure the o2 / co2 balance in the water is ok and your fish dont suffocate. i dont knw of anyone who has a tank of pure o2 for their fish!

then theres the people who keep live plants.. plants as you may well know require co2 to grow really well. you will ONLY need your co2 when you have live plants in there. btw love your background :good:

I have moss balls in there at the moment, but i do intend get a couple or so.
I plan to get a few cardinal tetras as the tank is only 6" depth ... but im happy.
I was just going throught the manual trying to set the programmes. I dont really know to much about it but im sure i will soon.

Thanks for the compliment mbsqw1d

Its a 6ft model ... but in reality the tank is 4 and a half foot X 2ft & im using a sand substrate.

The CO2 generator is illustated at the bottom of this link ... http://www.aquavistainc.com/products_wallmounted_panoramic.html

Actually, you can slightly oversaturate water with oxygen -- especially if the water is cool and being warmed up (like just after a water change, for example).

It is unlikely, but it is possible to get oxygen to too high of a level that it could be deadly -- kind of like hoe humans cannot breath pure oxygen gas.

Nonetheless, your main point here remains true, in that a tank with an agitated surface will almost always be at equilibrium with the atmosphere anyway. Injection of oxygen is unnecessary. Fish have survived and thrived in tanks for a very long time without oxygen injection. Someone sold you something that isn't really needed at all.

And then, unless you are going for a lushly planted tank, there isn't really much reason for the CO2, either. Maybe if you were going to attempt to breed fish and needed to achieve a perfect pH. Otherwise, the CO2 isn't needed either for the vast majority of tanks. And, yes, you can have lushly planted tanks without CO2, too.

What are the plans for the tank? That may help a lot to determine how needed the gas injection system(s) will be.
