several little white dots with tails have started to appear near the breeding tank which my pregnant guppy is in, the little white things arn't bigger than a grain of sand but the have teenyweeny tails and swim about...no one but me in my family has noticed them as there is not alot. They've got out of the breeding tank (i have a lid over it so they can't jump they are small enough to get through the side slats)...is it the baby fry i have been waiting for? or is it some weird new micro-organism?!

Sounds like fry... If you think about it, a guppy isn't that big anyway and they manage to produce quite a few babies each time which are going to have to be tiny to fit loads of them inside mummy guppy :)
Congrats on fry :)

are you sure because a video i have seen of a fish giving birth (was a sunset platy) you could clearly see the fry...these things arn't even big enough to see! i keep mistaking them for little bubble passed by the current! Plus my Guppy's belly is still big and square with distinct gravid spots (fry eyes)

they actully come out quite large i dont know how they do it lol when my guppy had babies i caould feed crushed flake food stright away jsut make sure to have your water in tip top condition to promote growth and good health

Then it can't be fry...these things are smaller than a grain of sand...to small to take a photograph of and mistaken for ickle white dots!
they are around this big . maybe smaller

OMG!!! SHE'S HAVING THEM NOW! Aickle fry just appeared with a little bubble below it's belly (dunno what that is but now it's gone) the mother is having a (what seems like stringy poo)!!! OMG I AM SOOOO HAPPY! this is my first birth!

congrats!!! :hyper: it is thrilling isn't it?

OMG! I couldn't be more thrilled...but jeez this birthing takes FOREVER!!! there's only one babie fry out so far!

It can take several hours for the drop to be complete. That is perfectly normal for guppies.
OMG just got back from school to find like 10 baby guppy's in bottom of breeding tank! I think it about enough for me plus i think from the start when she ate them as soon as they were born. This as big a number as i gonna get. So i've let her out the breeding tank so any babies born now are on their own. OMG I AM SOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY! Can't wait to show my dad, he's been at my gran's fixing her bathroom, and we've been waiting forever for her to drop!

hey, i wasnt sure where to post this so thought id ask you as your talking about guppys. My 3 female guppys are pregnant and they all seem about to drop but there is one in particular that the two boys wont leave alone! they keep nipping at her underparts and im not sure whether I should take her out incase they are stressing her too much but I dont want to have her in the breeding tank too long :S I have no idea when she will have her babies as ive only just got them a few days ago! Ive read a lot that the females should become still and not eat before they give birth but mine are moving a lot and eating a lot too so not even sure if they are about to drop really :S just that i also read that when the males start nipping at her she will give birth very soon! sooo confused could you please help?? Thanks!! ohh ill attach a piture of the one they are following and nipping at (its a rubbish picture but you can see her gravid spot on it) xx fish.jpg

heres a better picture (slightly) only its a different fish but they are all about that same size as this

i had my guppy in the breeding tank for about a month...and she dropped fine! i thought she was gonna give birth sooner so i had her in that long...she was fine whilst giving birth...and if that is what a gravid spot looks like, seems MY OTHER guppy is pregnant too!

ooh bad news...last night i found cyril (the only male guppy) dead under the filter...his belly was split so i think i know how, well he kept biting the sunset platy's underparts (like yours) and he's managed to damage my sunset platy's opening (it's always open and white now) so i think the platy's got their own back and bit him back...but bit too hard :( hit back tail was missing too....

ooh no!! :S well i might put the one they are following around in the breeding tank now then!! Just feel a bit mean as its small. I think guppys are pretty much pregnant all the time! haha! ill keep and eye on the boys from now on! thanks! x
