My First 'proper' Planted Aquarium...

The Monosolenium tenerum that arrived as a brown mushy mess was placed in a breeding net in another tank to see if I could revive it. It had what appeared to be Christmas moss mixed in with it which eventually started to green up so I wrapped the whole clump around a rock and moved it to the new tank. It has now started sprouting little tiny plant starts (they do not appear to be moss). Does anyone know what these might be? I know it's vague but I can't really get a clear pic. They appear as little 'dicots' sprouting from the moss ball.

Okay, this is possibly one of the worst pics that I have ever taken but it's the best of the bunch so here it is:

Is this possibly aquatic or some riffraff that managed to sneak in?

How risky is running DIY CO2 without a drop checker? My drop checker has not arrived yet and I just couldn't wait...

Once I get my drop checker, how do I go about adjusting the amount of CO2 if need be?
Also, I have the CO2 diffusing through a powerhead with a venturi adapter and it seems to intermittently shoot out a mass of larger bubbles. Is this normal?

Thanks Aaron, you have been so helpful. With your aid I may just get the results I was looking for...maybe. lol

After three days the froth on the top of my DIY bottle is gone. I'm still getting pretty much the same amount of bubbles and all. I thought the froth was a necessary side effect...why has my froth gone? Is it time to mix up a new batch already?

Dont worry about the froth, just concentrate on maintainng enough CO2 being injected into the tank, which so far it seems ok.

A little better pic of those seedlings that I was going on about...

those crypts are coming on well considering there condition a week ago, im not sure on your seedling but it looks like HC or glosso, but im probably wrong. im new to the hole planted thing.

Thanks Truck. The tank should see a drastic change soon as I'm expecting to double the plants with my new shipment coming this week or next.

I ordered them from Aquatic Magic. The quality and service is good but it took nearly 3 weeks to get my last batch (could have just been due to the holidays I suppose). They are located in Singapore and I am in the US so one has to expect a slight delay in shipping. lol Their site states 5-9 business days to the US (some plants as long as 12 days).

It's possible, but not likely. They pack everything in damp paper in sealed plastic bags to keep the humidity in. They offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if something does die they will replace it. I did have some Monosolenium tenerum come in dead but I'd say it was more due to the cold than anything else. They've shipped me a replacement.
