oh wait im thinkin this is the thread on how to start spike where the OP doesnt want to wait :lol: i thought it was missing something lol. well i still stick with what i said..IF he doesnt want to wait months for the spike to start. if he dont mind waiting then yeah just add live rock and maybe a CUC to help it along a bit. why is my way so bad then... no fish died and it started my spike within a week or 2. seems pretty good to me.

why do you need a spike, you need bacteria, not a spike. Even low-medium quality live rock has bacteria on it, and if you get it fully cured (like actually cured) then you wont have a spike, but you will have bacteria, meaning, instant cycle, which means, you can add fish safely.

cus it takes to long lol i had mine 2 months, checked every 2 days and it stayed the same reading pretty much the entire time. it did a drop a tiny bit only after 2 months. after 2 weeks of the damsel it was alot higher reading and dropped a few days after. the rock i got was from 2 diff places aswell and had some life on it

yeah, i cycled with just live rock for 2 months, got fed up of waiting for the spike so i added a damsel to start it off

Test doen and stats shown below
ph= 7.8
amonia=0ppm
nitrite=0ppm
nitrate=0-5ppm

all good part from nitrate by just a bit help needed folks and advice and also i think my salt level is way high because my hydrometer just shoots to the top everytime i try and test :(

if salt is to high just empty say 30% of the tank and fill with RO water, turn filter/pump on for a hour then check salt level again. check ur hydrometer is working aswell... take a cup of water from your tank and pour into a measuring jug or bowl then add a cup of tap water to it.. check with hydrometer and it should give a reading of less salt content

ph is a little low but sure that will change once you added some live rock. and you didnt mention temprature but should be good with most heaters

what he said, and make sure there are no bubbles on the swing arm in the hydrometer, and the ph is perfectly fine.

yup you sure are, you can add live rock from day one really because the critters and rock will kick of the cycle so keep checking your nitrate, nitrite and amonia levels... can take months keep in mind

can take months, but dont expect more than 2 weeks. Unless its some serious uncured rock...

Right guys a major up date , Live Rock added also started spike yesterday add 3 fish one hermit crab and a tube worm which the guy gave me for free :D, So the fish are 1x neon blue velvet damsel 1x domino damsel and finally 1x four striped damsel. Got home and noticed salt had dropped a tad so added it up and now fish have been in about a day and are scotting about the tank pics to follow :good:
