Nutrafin Co2 Basic User Guide

Ive just done a 50% water change. Luckily i do over filter as i have a TetraTec EX700 running on a 65 litre tank so hopefully that will help. I caught it extremly early as i checked the tank 30 minutes before. I changed my yeast mixture today about 12 hours or so ago so im not sure why its happened.

Still cant understand why my check valve just decided to give up very strange. Hope my fish are ok more then my plants right now. Now co2 overnight untill i get a new check valve in the morning.

samething happened to me, I did a 50 % water change with no difference then the next day I did a 65% water change and after the filter had done it's job overnight the tank was clear. It didn't hurt the fish at all and a lot of ppl told me at worst they just get a little drunk.........

Lol glad you tank panned out ok. Everything seemed fine in the morning after it happened. Water was once again clear which is probably due to the filter doing a excellent job getting the yeast etc out.

My fish all seem fine so all in all seems like it hasnt doe too much damage. New check valve is in place now and seems to be working correctly :)

Just to add my $.02, when I added 1 teaspoon of yeast, it went into the tank aswell. I'd definitely suggest using the 3/4 as mentioned above. :good:

Only time I've had yeast go into the tank using the 1 teaspoon method was when I knocked the canister off the shelf, causing it to bubble like crazy, then start to leak the liquid mixture into the tank

Somehow the mix got into the tubing and into my tank, I did a 45% water change but is this killing my fish? What should Do?

For future reference use a check valve

Hmmmm this has go me a little puzzled.

A check valve is just a one way valve, right? So as the mixture and the Co2 are traveling in the same direction how will it help? Surely it has got to allow the gas through so how will it stop the mixture?

Thanks

Jon

It won't.

So a check valve will not stop anything from flowing from the canister into the tank?

So why are people saying you have one to prevent it?

co2.JPGTry using something like a pop bottle placed in the line. It acts like a water trap so if any mixture comes out of your nutrafin unit it goes into the empty pop bottle.

 sorry about the drawing it was done very quickly, not one of my better art works

Many thanks, i understand now.

How many bubbles should i aim for? i am currently getting about 3 or 4 bubbles on the ladder at one time. Is this too low?

thanks again

I would say, how are your plants doing. I mean for me i use the regular set up and my plants are growing like crazy..........Fish are doing great so everything is in order

1. Fill canister with regular granulated sugar to the first line.

2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of dried yeast (available from supermarket).

3. No need for "Stabiliser" unless you have v. soft tap water.

4. Top up to second line with tepid (approx 30C) tap water.

5. Stir.

6. Fix lid tightly.

7. Attach tubing tightly.

8. Watch the bubbles appear after 10 to 30 minutes.

In step 5 are u meant to stir everything in the container, including the sugar thorouhly?

I finally have got this sorted after many attempts. the mix always seem to travel up the airline and into the tank.

So i cut a circular piece of felt (a Biorb cleaning pad made my Reef One) and placed it inside the cap of the canister. This stops the frothy mix leaving the can.

I also installed a twin valve in the airline so i can vent the co2 at night.

Now this works a treat!
