Zebra Plecos

Zebra plecos are restricted for export from Brazil, as of last month. There will be no more available that aren't from captive bred stock. Period. They are protecting what stock is left in the wild so they can build a dam for hydroelectric power in the river they are collected in. Makes no sense to me. Thank goodness I got my zebras years ago I guess.

Barbie you can still get them. :) It's only a week or so since i saw them for sale.
Really surprised that the opinion is £60 is cheap.Do they come with a life insurance policy. :X Too chicken myself to spend £60 on a plec incase it died.

I paid £52.50 each for my 5, they were marked as £60 each, but i convinced the shop to do me a deal. I only got them as I considered that to be such a cheap price given that any other time I saw them they ranged from £120 to £150 each. Plus if I can breed them, then I can make that money back in no time. especially given that they are no longer going to be imported. (although I'm not sure if that is true, or just a ploy to raise the price of them!!)
You can see a video of my zebras here

You could probably keep them with certain other fish, but I haven't looked into it at all sinceI knew my tank was going to be exclusively for them. The problem is that they are so shy that they just won't compete for food, so if the other fish in the tank eat bloodworm, krill etc, then the Zebras stand no chance and will die of starvation. That is why it is better as a species tank.
As for tank size, a 2ft tank will be OK for them, but 3ft is better. Here are some links if you want to do some research:

seriously - do lots of reasearch about them and their conditions.

We bought a 35gal (us) tanks for ours... although we didnt end up getting any (we have the columbian zebras instead)

The only ones you'll be getting are fish that are already in the hobby, or raised by hobbyists, period, for at least a few years. You can read the references for this Here.
