Zebra Pleco

I've just been talking to my mate and we were just wondering apart from the looks of this fish, why are they so expensive. I've seen better looking fish at an 1/8th of the price so it can't be just that.
Anyone got any ideas?

Various reasons from the obvious looks to them been on the ban list for export and the fact that they are hard to breed and when they do breed they produce very small batches of eggs which are even harder to raise.


For me been a sole plec keeper they don't seem expensive but if you put a fish in front of me of the same price that i have no interest in then i would think that fish was expensive. I guess it comes down to each persons view on each particular fish species.
