Zebra Pleco

I'm getting ready to put some south american puffers in my 36 gallon tank and was wondering if I could keep some or one zebra plecos. I read a post that said that they are aggressive with eachother and so I'm wondering if this is the right plec for me. I would have liked to keep maybe a couple and I'm worried (since I think they are nocternal?) they might harrass the puffers as they sleep on the sand at the bottom. I origanally thought it would be a good match because both the zebra plec and the SAPs are carnavores, but I would love some advice on:
1) whether or not I can keep a group in a 36 gallon
2) if they would be compatable with South american puffers
3) any other suggestions of other cool plecs that apply to the first 2 requirements
