Zebra Pleco.

I know I couldn't resist in the end, I kept thinking about getting one, shall I or not, it'll be our most expensive fish

If it's what you want, then why not?! I might get one if I can justify it to myself as it was my birthday last weekend and I got some cash. Although I spent lots of that on calligraphy stuff!!

lol

Hi,

Glad to hear you are getting one of Trimar :D. I have kept them before and I am currently looking for two of a resonable price as they are gregasious and should be kept with their own kind. I have found them resonable easy to keep providing they like the tank. The water should be slightly acidic, PH 6.5-7.0 is best. They are omnivorous and will feed on most standard preprepared foods. However, like most fish, it will do best with a varied diet that includes a range of vegetable & protein sources. Because this fish is a bottom dweller be sure to provide sinking type foods, like cucumber, sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms and algae wafers. Once acclimatized they are quite hardy but during the first two weeks they seem to be very insucure so subdued lighting and plenty of hiding places like caves and bogwood will help.

Good Luck

Another thing, I prefer to keep mine in a quite tank for the first week or so, e.g low stocking levels as they seem to get anxious and hide in the darkest most quite place in the tank and on occaisions refuse to come out for food as the others are going crazy, they are not good competers for food and need to be left alone to tuck in. With time though they become bolder.

I am not quite sure weather they like it as much as some of the other plecos who chow down on it, but they certainly prefer it to hide in/on so I would advise getting some. Do you have live plants? I find the best thing to do to get them settled in is to resemble the natural enviroment, although they come from the South American waters where few plants grow they do seem to feel safer with them, try setting up a cave and pice of bogwood surronded by plants. Worked a treat for me and I placed mine near the tank wall so I could see him hiding and he still felt safe.

Great get the bogwood and they will be very happy, are you getting more then one? Speaking to Monty they only had the 70 pound ones left, so I presume you got those not the 45 pound ones. I missed out on those too. :(

I when for the £70 ones in the end, because of that price, he will be on his own, but when I have some more money hopefully get another, because also I want to re arange what I have fish stock wise

Just seen, they have for 60 pounds, not a bad deal. Ummmm.......maybe.......

Yep, how do you mean rearrange fish stock? Do you mean you want to add and remove to create a certain tank?
