Our local pet store is selling a huge range of L-numbers these days, unfortunatly, none of them have the proper L number! There is a plec that looks a lot like a zebra, but I've heard theres a lot of zebra looking plecs around. Can anyone give me differences, L numbers etc? Also, are they all expensive, or are some just 'cheap' ? These here will be around 20 euros, any help would be appreciated

The real Zebra Plecs L046 will almost always fetch a far higher price than any plecs that share its name. Their black and white stripes are vertical (up and down the length of the fish), other fish sold under this name have horizontal black and white stripes.

L046's are unmistakable amongst other L number...

There are cocolate zebras... L307's

Or The 'Columbian Zebras' L129's that we have..

None look anything like the true Zebras.
Mind you - none have the price tag of the true zebra plec :D

Thanks a lot you all! :D I'm not happy I did not go on my instinct buying, seeing as I'm quite sure they're chocolates ... still very pretty though :) Thanks again!

Those columbian zebras are gorgeous, possibly even nicer than the L046! Any more pictures?

Ben
there are a few more in the 120l gallery on my site (link in sig)

but they are very shy and very nocternal - so pics are a rarity now they have sorted out their own hiding places :sly:

There's also L098 which is sometimes are what people are getting when they think they're buying L046

L046 has three horizontal stripes on the flank, L098 has two.

Then there's L173 with markings almost the same as the zebra but the lines are wiggly

And lastly L236 which has stripes that are branched and sometime vertical as well as horizontal.

great flittle fish the zebras, my choco's are doing great, nice to see my pic's are ding the rounds. Saw a few a while back for £95 for some L307 which i was shocked at. heard the price has been around 40£ in some places.
