i recently added two dwarf gouramis to my community tank. my tank is 110 l and i have 2 blue rams, 3 guppies, 2 dwarf angel fish, and 2 zebra danios.

all the fish in my tank seemed happy and apart from this problem cohabit peacefully, but 1 of my rams had been seen bullying other (newly added) fish, but soon gets bored and then completely leaves them alone, when i added the dwarf gouramis the same thing happend but soon it was all over.

i noticed the gouramis were verry shy and hid a lot and i assumed it was due to the ram, about a week later i got a good look at one and noticed his feelers were down to a 1/4 of there orriginal size and his tail fin had been nipped rather badly, agin i assumed it was the ram but after watching the tank i noticed he wasnt going near them the only fish who bothered the gouramis were the zebra danio's.

i was under the impression the danio's were peacefull, is this behavior normal and would danios be able to cause that much damage to a gourami??

the day after i removed the danio's 1 gourami died (all fins and feelers were fine i assume it was stress) and the gourami with the damage is eating but finding swimming verry labourious almost to the extent he looks crippled by the injuries, will his fins and feelers grow back?

does any one have any suggestions on where im going wrong as i want to keep some gourami's but not if this will happen again.

any help will be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance :good:

They are extremely peaceful but ONLY when kept in an adequate school (at least 6). They need a school for security (much like rasboras, tetras and minnows) and when not provided with one they will school with fish of a different species in an attempt to 'blend in'. Unfortunately danios communicate and maintain a social standing by nipping and chasing each other (when you get a proper school they will do this constantly ie. whenever they are not eating or sleeping) so very few fish appreciate being made an honorary danio.

Buy 6 more on top of the 2 and that should solve your problem.

The feelers will grow back eventually, albeit a bit crooked maybe.
