I have three zebra danios in my ten-gallon, and I wanted to add three more. I go to get them today, and the lady who was getting the fish was a sweet little old lady, but she couldn't tell the difference between the spotted danios and zebra danios, and she got me three spotted ones instead of zebras. I almost got her to put back the spottys and get me some zebras, but seeing as the tank had mostly spottys and only three or four zebras, and the lady couldn't tell the difference when catching them, I decided to just go with the spottys. :/

My question is, is this ok? They are cycling the tank so that I might get a crayfish (IF I can find dwarf crays or something else thats ok in the ten-gallon (in which case the danios will be moved to the 30 gallon), or I might get shrimp and keep the danios in the ten-gallon).

Hope this made sense. If not, I basically want to know if keeping 3 zebra danios with 3 spotted danios counts the same as having 6 of one species. ;)

Yes they are leopards. :)

Thanks Daspricey! :)

I just got through acclimating them to the tank, and I realized that they are a bit bigger and fatter then my zebras. :/

They look like little trout!

I'm guessing that they are a bit older then the zebras.

Is that a problem, or are they ok?

Leopard danios are actualy just a sub-species of zebras (hence, they will readily school)... Anyway, while you are cycling the tank, you shouldn't realy be adding more fish. You'll just prolong the cycling process and risk their lives while you're at it. Also, don't keep the danios in the 10 gallon. As you've probably noticed by now, they are active fish and should be in a 20 gallon minnimum.

edit: yep, the leopard danios are fine - they are just more mature. You'll find they all grow to be surprisingly larger than they are when you buy them ;p Mine always grow very rapidly. if yours are not, it's just ebcause you are cycling with them so they are stressed. Once you're done and you mvoe them into a larger tank, you'll notice the difference more.

Ok, thanks! I can put them in the 30 gallon once I figure out what I'm doing with my ten-gallon. :) (30 gallon currently has a silver shark who will be re-homed shortly due to me not being able to fit a proper tank for him here.)

i have three diff types of danios in my tank , blue, gold and zebra and they all school together fine so i doubt u will have a prob. with yours

Leopards are not a sub-species, they are a man made colour morph of the zebra danio :good:
