I know this has been asked before and yes I know Loaches eat snails. But, has anyone every tried keeping loaches with bigger snails, like Apple or Ramhorn? Im thinking these are too big and the smaller loaches wont mess with them. Anyone tried this? I want some Apple snails, but not if they are going to eat them...

Thanks B)

Hi, I had a Golden Apple Snail (it died while I was on holiday) when I put 2 Yoyo Loaches in (to eat pesky snails) they did pester the Apple snail for a while but then they stopped. I would have moved the Apple snail if they hadn't. I suppose it tastes the same as a pesky snail, just bigger! I don't know why the loaches suddenly left it alone but I have a small hexagonal tank which the snail could have been moved to . It actually lived in there anyway until I got a larger tank. Hope that helps. :)

not troed it personally but applesnail.net advises against it as the loaches pick at the tendrals and the breathing tube, once the snail has been suffocated (by the removal of the breathing tube) they move in and eat the rest.

Well that answers that question. No snails with loaches :kana:

I wouldn't advise it, the loaches will stress the snails out to no end.

I have Three YoYos I bought for snail control and they will only eat the suckers if I catch and crush them first  Maybe mine are just stupid and do not know they are supposed to eat them. I have had them for nine months and never seen them bother the pest snails.

I bought two Yoyo Loaches for snail control. They were doing quite well until one loach died after getting something stuck in it's mouth during lights out and the other one somehow got into the filter housing and died. I am not going to buy anymore, they wrecked my plants with all their digging! :) It's also quite hard to tell if they are dead due to their habit of lying on their side. Except for the one in the housing obviously!
