Hi everyone.

So my first tank a 180L finished its fishless cycle 3 weeks ago and I added 10 Cardinal Tetras the following week and its great to see swimming round in a shoal. I'm now looking at building up th numbers and building a community tank.
I fancy 3 Yoyo loach as my bottom feeders and they will also help if I ever get a snail problem.

They are proving to be very hard to source locally I have found a web based company that has them and will post them to you in what probably amounts to not much more than a water tight jiffy bag.

Has anyone ever used a service like this? Is it safe for the fish? or will it be highly likely I recieve a bag full of dead loach.

Thanks for any help in advance.

it's perfectly alright to buy fish online; they'll come packed in fish bags, normally with oxygen and something to soak up any ammonia, and then in an insulated box with a heat pack.

Just be aware that you must acclimatise them very slowly; preferably in relative darkness to reduce any stress on the fish.

Having said that, have you asked your LFS if they'll order some in for you? Most shops will if you ask :)

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

My 2 nearest lfs are both Maidenhead Aquatics and both said that they won't do orders like that as the have to buy in bulk and i would take 3 and they maybe stuck with 50 or more for months. Have not visited the third on yet might be able to on the way home.

Does your local p@h not stock them? My 2 are from there...

What about zebra loach? I got a few & they seem to be cute little things.

Zebra loach are much nicer and less trouble than yoyos IME.

I currently have a few zebra loaches in one of my tanks and they great but a bit shy tho :)

What are you keeping them with, how long have you had them and how many do you have? Mine live with tiger barbs and they're not shy at all.

Ah, they should soon settle in then; they're really not a very shy fish :) As always, the larger the shoal the better; I've got nine and am still thinking about getting another three!
