Just woke up this morning to see our yo yo loach lying almost on his side under a peice of bogwood. His colours are semi-faded out and hes hardly moving. Every now and then he gives a little wriggle but thats about it.

His gills stop moving for a few seconds and I think hes dead but then they start moviign again for a bit.

Whats wrong with him????
Checked the water yesterday:
temp:25.5'C
nitrAte: 60
NitrIte: 0
PH: 7.6
KH: 6
GH: 9

Nothing has changed in the tank for weeks, he was happily eating blood worms and snails (we are breeding them in the nursery tank) yesterday.

Usually he's up and about swimming all over the tank -_-

Any ideas??

Edit: I forgot to say theres no sign of illness, we finished treating for ich last week but he never had any spots, and this week (monday) we added liquisil which is an all round anti fungus anti bacterial thing - its the first time we've used this...could it be the problem?? The label doesnt mention anything about it being unsafe for certain fish...

And also everyone else in the tank is perfectly happy, even our other loach, its just him :(

NitrAte seems a little too high if its at 60ppm. Go ahead and do a water change and try bringing the nitrAtes down to 20ppm or lower.

Loaches are scaleless which makes them easily effected by meds at full doses. I've always (when i had to, i try to avoid meds and chemicals in my tanks) use half doses on my loaches.

Ok, I will do a water change and I'll bear in mind to use half doses in the future but ive just got home again and hes up and about all back to normal! even his colour is normal!

So yay for Dr Zoidberg the yoyo loach!! :D

The description of your yoyo loaches behavior didn't seem strange to me at all... mine is like that daily while he takes his cat naps. Honest - I'd be worried if he didn't act like that. :D

Phew thats reassuring, my boyfriend said he had done it before and was probably just sleeping but he looked like he was dying!!!!

I'll know not to panic in future :D

Same here Nutmeg, I was concerned when my clown loach first started acting in this way but its quite funny now, i think he does it when he wants attention. :)

:byebye: thats were your wrong my clown loach started doing this yesterday and hes gone now. I think its a heat problem. I did all the stuff like meds and that beforhand but he just went. now im fighting to save the other.

Carl

loaches do rest on the bottom in an odd fashion, sort of off to the side on the belly
if thats what you're referring to, its very normal

as long as your water params are ok sounds like normal loach behaviour. ours rest lying down on their sides & sometimes completely upside down & dont move for hours sometimes. the colour change happens with ours when theyre having a little tiff - they go white & then slowly back to normal.
hope your yoyo is still fine :D
