Yoyo Loach Observation

A first for me.

Okay so I was sitting on our sofa of which some of it runs by one end of my tank I was watching TV for a change, For some reason I glanced to my left to look at the tank for a moment I thought I had lost two of my yoyo loach they were in the corner almost motionless.

They were head to tail to each other hardly moving to start with but the worst thing was all there markings had completely gone and instead of there greyish, silver colour they were anaemic white with a few flashes of pink almost like I had two albino yoyo's.

After about 5 minutes they just darted of into one of the cave networks of course I was stuck to the tank like glue for the rest of the evening confirming there presence about an hour later there colouring and markings returning quite nicely.

A couple of days later they are like always greedy and lazy, although I have seen them playing with the others from time to time.

There was no abnormality in the water stats or the tank and environment I am guessing they had an extended argument about hierarchy like most groups of loaches do.

That must have been worrying! I've never kept them myself so can offer no better explanation than yours but it seems an odd way to argue; were they doing it telepathically do you think?!

My group do the same regularly. You get used to it. I think it is an attention-seeking tactic, much like Clown Loaches lie on their sides.

The bleaching out of colours/marking sounds very similar to what happens with Panda Garras, when they are arguing over territory and/or hierachy within the group.

Agreed.

I would say this is the "greying out" usually associated with loaches during feeding or "battling for dominance". Completely normal.

I have seen my Pak's "ghost out" but not so much lately as the three of them seem to have totally settled in together. The female (?) is so full of eggs she barely fits in any of her usual haunts (I have to keep making her bigger hidey holes) and she sort of lists to one side

with her dorsal fins more or less poking out either side of her and sometimes I have seen her sort of waddle across the bottom of the tank. But if I squash some snails for her then she really moves to scoff the treat. Now if I could just figure out if the other two Pak's are males then I am one step closer to figuring out if I can get them to breed. Apparently they breed them in Russia but I am not sure if its via chemical enducement or what, I'd prefer it if my pak's breed on their own accord.
