I've had 2 yoyo botias, for quite some time now, they are very small, about 1 inch still.
My friend also has had his for roughly the same amount of time, approx 3 months, and they were bought at the same size as mine. His yoyo's have grown considerably, they are about 2 iches now, if not bigger.
I am wondering why haven't mine grown at all since I've had them? Are they not getting enough food? I have bought some sinking pellets recently to see if there is a change. If anyone else may have other ideas or explinations that would be great!

At this stage of life, Yoyo's should be very fast growing. I got mine at 1" in Jan of 2006, by March they were all 3". Even faster growth has been reported.

The absence of growth may be caused by several factors:
1. You are not feeding enough; you should be providing a variety diet, including frozen shrimp and bloodworms, and some veggie wafers as well. At least twice a day. A fast-growing fish needs all the food it can get.
2. The conditions in your tank are totally wrong. Please describe.
3. Internal parasites. All loaches much be dewormed.

hth

Notice that if a yoyo fails to normally grow at this time of life, it is likely to be smaller/weaker later, even if the problem has been corrected. The faster you fix the situation, the better it is for the animals.
Notice further that all Botias should be kept at 5+, with 3 really being the absolute minimum. They have social life, which can only be achieved with numbers.

I have discovered the problem, thanks for your answer though
I do feed them twice a day, sometimes 3. I feed them sinking pellets, wafers, and whatever food sinks to the bottom
My tank conditions are fine, so its not that. I have spoke to someone about it but thank you for your response!

hi
as said our yoyos grew very fast at first - we've had them around 4 yrs now & the biggest is approx 6 inches long & about an inch at widest girth. their growth has now slowed down considerably.
have you tried food like bloodworm, mosquito larvae etc ( comes in frozen blister packets from lfs - defrost & chuck in) they will go MAD for it. we give ours this stuff as a treat about once a week.
great fish

My Yoyo has never really grown, he must be like 2 inches, he's probably stunted because he's only in 17g but back then I had no clue and assumed he'd be alright. Ever since I bought pellets for him he's started chasing my other fish but he never does any damage.

he needs some friends... loaches are very social fish, need to be kept in groups... youd have to increase tank size first :)

i have more then one, i have 2, i know this isnt enough but i cant get anymore, so they'll have to live the way they are till i do get more
