I'd be curious to see which of our members made life career choices based on actors or characters that they watched on TV or in the movies as a child. Anyone out there, besides me, pursue a career that was heavily influenced by someone...some character...some TV or movie theme...that guided them to where they are now?

For me, that's easy. Here were my heroes. How many can you name? SH

I'm only 17 (18 a week on thursday :D) and i'm an apprentice Mechanical Fitter at a powerstation. Even though he was a steeplejack it'd have to be this guy;

#1. I can't remember the name of the show or thedoctor but I definitely remember watching the program but can't remember the name.
#2. Looks like Dr. Kildare but I never watched the show much. Must have been something else on opposite it that I liked.
#3. Also looks like Dr. Kildare but i can't remember the other doctors name.
#4. Ben Casey. I did watch this one a lot.
#5. Marcus Wleby, MD. Never watched it but remember it.
#6. How could anyone not know who these brain surgeons were?

I can't say that I ever had a TV hero that lasted for long. Of course there was Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger in the early days (man, I'm old). I guess all kids wanted to be like them when we grew up. As far as careers are concerned, I've worked in a grocery store (Mr. Whipple maybe), construction and building materials (can't remember any shows about construction workers) and now I'm a Realtor. Don't see much in those fields that could be tied to TV.

Well, "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams" certainly springs to mind immediately. The whole bonding with animals and nature thing really struck a chord - not that we have bears in South Africa. And though I came close to pursuing a career as a game ranger, I chose to do veterinary nursing instead (though I've since moved away from it - despite having been the best "job" ever).
Perhaps one day if I'm lucky and life leads me that way, I'll have or work in a sanctuary of some kind.

TV Heroes would be Grizzly Adams, when i was younger and wanted to be a Vet.
ATM I am Being Very Imspired by the Men and Women who are Animal Welfare Investigators and Ambulance Staff on Animal Planet.
Have Been Applying to be an RSPA Inspector every year since i was old enough to apply. One year i may get lucky.

I just wanted to be a princess/ballerina/fairy/nurse when i was younger.

I'm now starting to work in business continuity and risk management...... slight difference :rolleyes:

however i've always wanted to be a musician and while i haven't made it pro i did study music at uni and play 1st flute with the west yorkshire fire and rescue service concert band now so still living some of my dreams at least in a small way!!
