Your Thoughts On Buying A Used Tank

yes! you've all be a great help, now i can go find a good deal/tank to get these puffers some space! thanks again :D

Our tank is used. Nothing wrong with it at all, and it worked out very cheap!

Only downside is that as a beginner I would have preferred to build it myself, to see how the filter works inside and stuff, but thanks to these forums I've got it all worked out now. Other downside is it came with snails, who quickly became an infestation!

ah, i hope mine comes with snails...save me some money cause my puffers will take care of them RIGHT away(with pleasure)!! :sly:

you may want to fill the tank outside and let it sit for a few days (on the stand) to make sure there are no leaks... you can put a piece of newspaper under it to help check for leaks.

hmm i wouldnt really suggest putting it outside in the area i live it would get niked or smashed and i dont trust uk weather

so does everyone sterilise their tanks with vinegar? A lot of people have told me to use bleach. Which is better?

DO NOT USE BLEACH

the residue could kill your fish and it is VERY hard to get all of it out

I actually have never had to use more then water and a alge scruber pad to clean up my tanks so vinger should be a 2nd step

Another misinformed do not use bleach post. I've been using it for years, it's nothing more than concentrated chlorine, the same as in your tap water. Vinegar is great for hard water stains, but doesn't sterilize.

Take a read here, I posted this topic a while back; http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=119809&hl=

Yes, I just used bleach on some of my stuff yesterday. Rinse rinse rinse. Its better than spreading disease. You never know what someone had in that tank before. Who knows, maybe they got rid of it because of discouragement over not being able to get rid of some terrible disease? Its not like the glass is going to absorb it to leach it out later.
