Your Fishkeeping Mistakes, Accidents & Disasters?

When doing a water change went downstairs to talk to my dad with the syphon in the tank and the other end in the bucket, I then forgot about the water change and after 5 minutes remembered and ran up stairs to find my bedroom floor flooded- fish flopping around on the sand and everything. Luckily I poured the water that was in the bucket into the tank in time to revive the fish :p

I could not begin to count the number of dumb moves I have made with my fish over the last 50 years.
When I started in the hobby, nobody did water changes ever if they could avoid them. That also means no gravel vacs. You can imagine what a new fish in that environment went through. Most of us used good filters and lots of plants to maintain water quality but there is still something to be said for a water change. The established fish had acclimated over time to very hard water with high dissolved solids and the new ones we brought home often died trying to acclimate. I think the only reason we ever had any success was because we used so many plants to keep removing nitrogen and minerals from the water.

biggest mistake was my first fishkeeping experience. way back in xmas 1991 I got my new 18inch tank and on xmas day being so impatient I filled it with hot water from the bath, the glass c racked and leaked through the roof ha what a numpty

last year doing a water change I fill my tank with a hose and I FORGOT AND LEFT IT FILLINGFOR ABOUT 20 mins and there was water all over the garage and 9 piranhas in very cold tap water. shows you how hardy they are they were totally fine

About a month ago i was out with the lads, stumbled home got into bed at about 2am, then at about 3.30am i heard dripping, and it was my fish tank leaking, so i was catching the water leaking out attempting to take it to the toilet to get rid of it, but i fell over on the landing, so i had a wet bedroom and wet all the landing. oops, My mum wasnt very impressed.
