I've read a bit but I wanna hear what people who've kept them think about them. I found some really nice lookin ones and was condsidering adding them to a tank with neons danios bala's and 2 dwarf gouramis also panda cories. But I wasn't sure if they'd be communal enough or if they'd try to terrorize everything like the blue botia I almost bought.

I have four Yo-yo's, and I absolutely adore them. They are as passive to my other fish as they could possibly be. Occaisionally they will pick at each other a little bit, but it never amounts to anything. I've never seen any of my Yo-yo's do anything even remotely resembling harmful intent toward any of my other fish. They are active and seem very curious. If a group of fish gather close together, you can bet one of the Yo-yo's will swim right through the middle of them, looking side to side as he goes, as if to say "Is something interesting going on here?" Sometimes they'll get right behind another fish and swim directly behind it for a few moments like they're playing "follow the leader", and then they'll break off and investigate something else. It's rather amusing. My other fish are not afraid of or skittish around the Yo-yo's whatsoever. They act just like the Yo-yo's are their own kind.

There are some conflicting statements/opinions on the web about their disposition in a community, so I don't know whether this is due to variance in temperment or just misinformation. The guy at my LFS told me once (before I owned any myself) that Yo-yo's would antagonize tetras to death, and should only go with fish that will fight off bullies. My experience with my four could not be more different.

Hope that helps!

Blue Botia - Botia modesta is a much more aggressive Botia and when it is not kept in large groups it will often become to aggressive for a peaceful Community tank. Yo-yo Loaches on the other hand are far more peaceful and when kept in a group as they should be they provide activity and colour along with a peaceful nature.

I've already decided against the blue botia.

I am curious if I could add a trio of yo-yo's to a tank that has danios. Bala's, school of 22 neon's&cardinal and 2 red gouramis.

I know they should be fine with everthing except maybe the danios and neon/cardinals.

My experience is they do fine until the get really large. I had 3 get about 4 1/2 " or larger and they were not nice to my tropicals so I put them in with my cichlid and the were fine.

Hi Sky - I have a single stinker that I've posted about before... I think you have the magic number (3). I really think that they will be fine and you will probably enjoy them for years. My single (4 plus inches) has now been in a 10 gal with male guppies and some juvi swordtail fry for 3 months. He's now a real great guy and I never see the trouble that I had in the tank in my sig. I bet a trio would have prevented that altogether. Get them and happy trails. :D

hi there,
we have 2 in with neons, cardinals, red eye tetras, corys, tiger barbs, zebra & leopard danios & have never had any probs with them chasing or annoying any other fish. but they do like to have their own company & i know a lot of info labels them as 'semi -aggressive' but we've never seen this behaviour from our 2 at all, except occasional tiffs they have between eachother. (nothing serious they each have staked out their 'own' cave & will chase the other out if ventures in) other times theyre swimming around together & sometimes go 'on tank patrol' with our tiger barbs( swimming up,down & around checking the neighbourhood out evenings & mornings)
:D

Well today I added 2 2.5" yo-yo loaches. So far they're very amusing to watch and very active fish just like the clowns I have in another tank. They're not as thick as the clowns though. So far they have great appetites I think next week I may add 2 more.

I think this is the same loach hard to tell both are nearly identical and neither of them likes to be out in public at the same time.

Great Sky! I have 9 of them, they are awesome! :D
I thought you had 9 clowns? you've got 9 Yo-Yo's too?

I've got 2 clowns in another tank that will soon be joined by 2 more clowns.

The yo-yo's are cool they act a lot like the clowns but only are expected to grow to about 4 inches.
