You Occupation Or Vocation

I was an Oncology Nurse in Germany. After moving to Canada and raising a family I now work for a Community Health Care Agency! Like phoenix on page 1, I take care of people of all ages, all kinds of disabilities as well as the terminally ill.

I was a teacher for 15 years until we got a new Head - she managed to get rid of 6 out of the 7 existing staff!

I am now caring for my wife who has leukaemia (oh and a couple of children!)

My job title is "Shaft Vent Engineer" on a Platinum mine (been on Gold and Diamond mining as well)..... and it basically entails monitoring the pollution levels in the mining industry (air pollution, water pollution, Noise, illumination, Ergonomics, sanitation, heat, environmental control or any other aspect which may have an affect on occupational health of employees) and then make recommendations to rectify sub standard and/or hazardous conditions and situations..... Been doing it now for 42 years and due for retirement in November this year.....

Quite a few members of the medial profession :) My wife got her Diploma in Community Nursing at Kings and did 1 year as a band 5 then moved to another base to take on a band 6 role. The other staff there hadn't had a boss for about 9 months so were really slack, even sending people out to observe perfectly capable patients taking blister pack drugs and giving insulin injections! She spent ages working through all the longer term patients working out who actually needed them to come in and in the end I think she dropped their work load by about 20% be cutting out ridiculous stuff like that. That particular PCT then offered her the chance to go and take the degree course at mid Band 5 pay so that's where she is until September :)

Some of the stories of waste and inefficiency and stuff are ridiculous though!

Surprise surprise, I work in the security industry.

Physical security or alarm?

I work for an alarm company as part of customer service and technical support in a call center. It's a national company and my branch deals with the commercial side of things and not residential.

I would imagine in the lock industry going by his username?

Ainsy, my hat come off to you mate, keep up the good work.

Ian... Congratulations on the new post. Does this mean you will have even more money to throw at your tanks now? :grr:

Micko, i can imagine that your job is very rewarding at times, although very frustrating too. lol.

I have recently got a new job as a fine turf team leader for a local authority.

I am a fully qualified Horticulturalist, but working for the dodgy Regional council that I work for I might as well have been a meat worker or ex-crim....oh hang on that's who they mostly hire any way. Just find it so annoying that they wont recognise ability and qualifiactions and instead keep promoting people with no hort skills within the parks department.

I'm a certified Medical laboratory Technologist. I usually work in Clinical lab settings in hospitals and such, but right now I am working in a production lab harvesting stem cells from Umbilical Cord Blood.

Nice to know its not just here in the uk! The thing I can't stand is that when they set temporary workers on they have no idea about gardening, which, in the height of summer when its flat out is more hassle than help as I then have to show them what to do, so it takes me off my job aswell as them from theirs and ends up taking twice as long.

Quite right, Minnnnnnnnnnnnt, although in fairness, about the only areas of security we don't operate in are commercial alarms, CCTV and gorillas-in-doorways, I'm sorry, manned security.

Im a secret assassin.

Does that mean that you assassinate secrets?

yes.gif

ex-crim....oh hang on that's who they mostly hire any way.

arent you all ex crims in Oz? sorry I'll grab my coat....#

Id love that kind of outdoor job

I was a full time carer to my mother who had Alzheimer's for the last 10 years.
She passed away recently, so I guess I'm unemployed, & at my age it seems here in the uk, unemployable..
