I'll be using this thread to replace the thread in Marine Chit Chat, so just to recap...

I was considering using either my current Fluval Roma 90 with T8 lights or a D-D 24g NanoCube but then went all leftfield and bought a Rio 125 for the extra width and the T5 lighting.

My plan is to venture off into soft corals eventually, but for now it'll be FOWLR.

Right, been a busy lad so no updates, until now..

The tank arrived

More to follow...

After carting 100L of RO from my LFS and getting 6.6kg of D-D H2Ocean Salt

How much salt goes in to saltwater!!!!!!! Next time I go snorkelling i'm keeping my mouth firmly shut!!

That's it for now, got the tank mixing with my 600LPH jewel pump, 1450LPH Newave Powerhead and a Koralia Nano - the new version which puts out 1600LPH.

Just as a side note, out of the two the Newave is much quieter so far, although i've read that the Koralia's quieten down.

Going away for 5 days now, the tank will be left on tickover - no lights, just one pump running. When I return it'll be Liverock time! Possibly the bit i'm looking forward to the most!!

Back from my break so time for an update.

Having left the tank for a good few days I thought i'd test my refractometer out, firstly I checked calibration, which was spot on. So next I checked the tank water, which turned out to be s.g 1.024. This was acheived by adding 3.990kg's of D-D H2Ocean to 100l of RO.

My Salifert test kits arrived while I was away, got Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH for now.

Tank temp is 26 deg C so decided to go get the Live Rock.

In the end I paid £11/KG for some partially cured pieces. I got 10KG in all, quite happy with it as it's brimming with colour and full of holes and interseting features. Not seen anything more exciting that a bristleworm yet but i'll be out tonight with my red torch! Not aquascaped yet, just wanted to get the rocks wet again after being in the car for 25 mins.

I'm also ditching the egg crate idea, I was quite suprised how light the rock was so I trust the glass to take the strain.

I'll test the stats in two days, i've also added Rowaphos and Activated carbon, got three powerheads running at 25-30x and the lights are off.

Just out of interest, I got a new Koralia Nano 1600LPH powerhead, pretty impressive output for the size, although it's currently buzzing and it's driving me crazy. When it's quiet it's really quiet, but eventually the buzz returns. If anyone's got any tips for curing this i'd be most grateful.

Off to pet rock watch!

I'll be watching your journey woo hoo :good:

Looks like you got yourself some nice shaped rock there

Yeeaahhhhh!!!!

Found some life, a little orange snail about 2mm in diameter, a barnacle type thing with it's antennae wafting around and also a creature in a clear tube that keeps sticking it's antennae out and then quickly retracting.

This is too much fun!

I've spotted some more things now, one of which I would like ID'ing.

I've seen some white and brown tube worms, a worm that pops in and out of a rock (looks like a thin earthworm) and a black worm made up of triangular sections (about 4cm long). Is the last one a bristleworm of some sort? It looks nothing like a typical bristleworm using google as a source.

Do a google image search for eunice worm its about all I can think of if it is it needs to be removed.

i think i have one of those worms   what do they do?do they eat fish? i typed it in and it looks like a worm i have seen loads of times. mine has red srip and a white strip on it. dose it eat snails? because i am missing some  i know were this worm lives in my tank. but my leather has stuck it self on the rock. how do you get rid of it?

Eunice Worm trap with some prawn at night

I think i was seeing things last night, turns out my triangle segmented worm was actually an arm of a brittle star retracting back under a cave,

My 'earthworm' has no feet, just smooth.

Some more inhabitants to report:

A tiny green crab with hairy legs and white/black pincers

A tiny green and white smooth looking crab (emerald?)

Flippin clear Aiptasia, just a single stalk - how should I nuke this?

That's it for now, will be searching again later.

I've ordered some blue led's for moonlighting, still not sorted my buzzing Koralia - i think it'll be given mixing duties and replaced by a 2nd Newave 1450 which is silent.

Have you checked the shaft in youyr Koralia, I bought one recently and the shaft had actually broken right down at the base - but a horrid noise!
