As you guys know my tank has white spot/ich. It has not cleared at all on the cardinlas. Today I retreated the tankl. The temp is ranging 31.5-32 degrees.

Tonight I have 2 of the cardinals with their left eye bulging/protruding. It looks awful, I can't imagine that it feels okay. The one that looks the worst is still quite infested with the white spot.

What is this bulging eye and is it caused from the parasite? Or the temperature? or is it unrelated to the problem and another issue alltogether?

hi, i would post this in the emergengy bit to be honest, sounds nasty :( sounds like your having a tough time at the moment, i know how you feel, hope you get it sorted tho, soon

May well be popeye, which is never good, can you post pics at all?

Hi Shelag, I have tried to post in the emergency area but windows seems to have a problem with it and won't let me. Some sort of conflict.

kj2, I haven't checked my water so the quality is no doubt poor. I wanted to do a water change but have been advised not to do one at all while treating it. I could get it checked in 2 days time though as the guy at the pet store said today to come and see him if it hasn't cleared after this 2nd treatment.

Minx, I would take a pic but it's hard to see side on and the cardinals don't really look straight on for more than a sec. That is when I saw it. I could try but I don't think I'd get a good photo to be honest.

Don't know how you guys feel when things go from total smooth sailing to continued problems, but it sure has put me off. I'm terribly disapointed in what has happened.

The pet store guy seemed so certain that within a couple of days it would be all fine. How wrong he was and today when I rang him he was pretty suprised that it hadn't budged off the cardinals.

I have a bad feeling I am going to loose quite a few of them.

I'm really frustrated that I can't doing anything more to help my fish, and it really bothers me how much it upsets my daughter as she is very attached to them. If we didn't enjoy them as much as we do, I think I'd give the whole fish love a big miss.

Dont give up tetratank, I know how you feel, when things start to go wrong, you feel totally helpless and it feels like things will never get right.

Unfortunately it always seems to happen at once. The only thing you go do now is continue the second treatment for the whitespot as you've already started it. However, once its finished, I would advise a 50% water change and get your water tests done, if you dont have your own test kit, get the LFS to write down the results and post them up here, then everyone can advise you the best course of action to take.

We all go through this at some point in the hobby, its almost inevitable unfortunately. Dont beat yourself up too much for it, I along with many others on here have lost fish and felt like giving up completely - you will get through it.

thank you Minx for your kind words. I have alot of other things going on at the moment, so I'm feeling overwhelmed. This is the worst time for my fish to be unwell and I feel to blame as I introduced the new fish when I shouldn't have and if they didn't give it them, then I caused the established guys to get sick from too much stress.

I wouldn't like to give up, but seeing the cardinals with thier eyes like that does make me sad for them and question my ability to care for them properly.

Fingers crossed they get better. Doesn't look promising though.

As soon as I get the stats on the water, I'll let you guys know.

hi tetratank, so sorry to here about your problems i' ve had some sleepless nights when i've had just one fish ill, hope you sort it out soon. I have found that good tank maintenance and regular water tests will stop most alliments, but you will get the odd problem now and again, Good luck :good:

oh please dont give up love, think of it as a learning curve, we have to go through,
thinking of you

Tetratank,
Sorry to hear you're getting the s*** end of the stick at the moment. If I were you, I'd do a decent sized water change then start the course. If the water quality isn't good at the moment, it's just going to prolong the treatment time. Make sure there's no carbon in your filter, then follow the instructions on the medication to the letter. If it's a course that lasts for a couple of days then has a gap before a second course, make sure you finish it; don't think they look a little better and forget the rest. The first course is to blast the culprit, the second part is to (hopefully) finish it off completely. Good luck.

dont give up! I have just gone through the same problem. My tank became infested with whitespot following the addition of six glowlights. Two courses of protozin later and the glow lights were still covered also two of my existing fish stock ( it did kill the pest snails though). I did a very large water change and used british king ws3, sadly the glowlights were too badly affected and died. It has now cleared from the remaining fish and i am continuing treatment for a few more days to make sure. My water stats were excellent thriughout. what meds have you been using? i followed the instructions on protozin to the letter
also raised the temp etc. i also started treatment as soon as i saw a white spot on the first glowlight, so i dont understand why it did not work, it apparently has a good reputation. Keep at it, good luck
Jackie
