I have an Aquone AR850 all in one tank (click on my profile name to see pic), 155L (has light and external overhead filter included). The filter sucks water from the bottom left of the tank, just above the gravel, sprinkles it over the filter medium at the top of the tank, and drops it back via a spout on the right side of the tank.In the filter I have some biological filter in a mesh bag from the LFS, some ceramic noodles on top of that and some filter mat. It has a piece of driftwood that I'd previously soaked and scrubbed for a week to get tannings out. What the filter doesn't have is carbon (although the tank came with it). LFS said it was useless, so we didn't put it in.
I'm pretty sure it has cycled, have had 0 for ammonia and nitrite for about 4-5 weeks, with nitrates from 5 to 10. pH is at 7.5. I vacuum and do a 20-25% water change weekly.
I have 3 leopard danios, 3 ZD, 3 sterbais, 3 bristlenose (that are under 3 cm each). I am feeding once a day.
Over the last 2 weeks, my water has turned cloudy/greenish and there's lots of brown algae on the plants. There is some hair or beard algae, a small amount of green, and some grey fuzzy stuff on the wood. The bristlenose are not touching the algae off the plants. I'll try to post some pics up.
I tried running the tank with no lights for about 4 days, but no luck. The gravel also looks a little yellow. We stopped putting liquid plant food about 1 week ago. The only fertilizer is via Sera Florenette tablets in the gravel, and I only replaced them last night after 2 weeks.
I don't know what to do. Should I be doing a water change everyday? Should I be turning my light off? Should I be adding carbon to the filter?
Also, if I wanted to increase my filter capacity, do I just put more filter medium in? My filter box has enough for another third of the amount I think.
