Hey all.

I just got some baby guppies and decided to hatch brine shrimp to feed them, as it is what I see everywhere as a rich and easy-to-get nutritious food.

A question I can't find an answer to is, once the BBS hatch, do I keep them in the hatchery without the air circulation? How long can they survive there? Also, once they hatch, do I need to keep the hatchery warm? I have the hatchery inside the tank to use the water temperature, but once they hatch, it's more convenient to have the hatchery out of the tank.

I don't have much fish yet (about 15 livebearers and a small angelfish) and only 13 little fry, so half a tsp of eggs is a lot of brine shrimp to feed in just one day, I think. Or isn't it?

FWIW, I hatched a good batch yesterday. I stopped the air pump to retrieve some and feed the fish around 36 hours after starting and then resumed the air pump. Eventually, I closed the pump at the 48h mark (it was late at night), and in the morning, every shrimp was dead.

Ok, so artemia, after hatching, doubles or triples its size and needs constant food supply (green algae water I would say) within few hours.
That is why people store freshly hatched baby brine in the refrigerator. They separate the shrimp through the net to a different shallow containers but use the hatching water to store in the fridge. Or freeze :)
