Hi all

I think i can safely say my 20 gal tank is officially cycled with fish in,obviously i won't tempt fate to much and will keep checking water stats. :good:
My ammonia has been zero for 2 weeks and nitrite has been zero for a week,(it kept sticking at 0.1 for a while),I think this cycle has taken around 9 weeks.

I certainly won't do a fish in cycle again, its too stressful, checking and doing water changes several times a day!!

Fingers crossed for my fishless cycle :)

Some peoples tanks take about 3 weeks to cycle, then you have peoples tanks that take 9 weeks to cycle

Thanks :good:

When i say 9 weeks, thats up to date,so in theory the tank took 7 weeks to get a regular zero with no ammonia :)

Congrats!

Fish in cycling must have been hard work, well done.

I'm working on a fishless cycle at the moment and am nearly there...

Good going Harlequins. I just brought home a "classic" 20 gallon with the old fashioned stainless steel frame from a club auction and am really looking forward to being able to have it become one of my main display tanks. I just love the old stainless tanks and want to make everything right in that tank before I move any of my fish over. Meanwhile I have started to cycle a correctly sized filter by letting it run in one of my established tanks. Maybe I can build the new stand this weekend and start working on making a hood for it. Unfortunately, the old steel hoods have not survived as well as the tanks so I can't expect to ever find an original to fit the tank.

(and fit nicely they did!.. remember how the hood knob was a round black ball? The Metaframe ones had two heater knockouts on one end and one on the other and, assuming it was the "newer" fluorescent type, you had to hold the push switch in manually until the ballast lighted the tube, lol.)

I had a few WD but started to switch to modern tanks when I got my O'Dells. I still have two of those old O'Dells but didn't move the stainless tanks when I moved from California to Illinois.
