hey. Have a 260l juwel with two large bits of bogwood that stain my water, even after 5 months, too big to boil. My neighbout considers herself a fish expert and said that the plants make the water yellow too.
Now, i know the bogwood does, but i have never heard of plants turning water yellow. The water is clean and clear, just tinted, with the tannin i think, but now she has me thinkin. Its not the plants as well, is it?

[Just a few drops of liquid plant food, King british i think. Its not heavily planted, but theres enough. The plant food turns the water cloudy so im not too sure about it. Like i say, i never really did alot to take care of the plants before apart from that, but now ill take it a bit more serious i have the co2 in there.

It won't be the plants.

I'm assuming you perform regular water changes. Sometimes the water will tint via the accumulation of humic acids etc. produced via decaying matter but this is only in very old water.

I have two pieces of driftwood that give off constant tannin.. no matter how many water changes i've tried.

I also have 2 pieces of bogwood that turns the water yellow, I had boiled them before adding them to water but still over 1 and half years later water still turns yellow.
I do buy poly filters than can remove the tannins but these are quite expensive.

Unless the tannins released by the wood hinder the viewing of the fish, I wouldn't worry about it. When I can get wood in my tanks, I really enjoy the tea color. I think it brings out the colors of some species of fish that reside in areas with tannic (sp) water. It also looks lovely on very subtly colored fish and softens a sometimes harsh glow from too bright a light for plant growing. I think that the sparkling gouramis I plan on getting will look very nice with the darker water. To each is own, however, so you can do what you wish with the water. I personally like it.
