L134 leopard frog?

no it was black i think but i know it had yellow stripes like a zebra pleco and it had zebra in it but i cant remember but i am going to the lfs tomorw ot find out

unfortunatly there are no other plecs with stripes like the zebras... in any colour....

it'll be a store trying to cash in on the name zebra and nothing more...

as suggesed, have a look through planet catfish.

ok i went there again today and it is labeled yellow zebra pleco i am going to look through plante catfish and see if i can see any close matchies

so what you are saying there are only zebra plecos and no other plecos with zebra in its name??

There are three or four "Zebras" at least including a Chocolate and False Zebra. It's a common name too so who knows what the real species is. For all we know, the LFS made up the name themselves.

Because of the huge desirabilty of the Zebra Pleco Hypancistrus zebra and its poor availability, a lot of fish stores have taken to naming any stripey pleco with variants on zebra.
I've seen:
  • dwarf zebra plecs (zebra ottos)
  • Giant zebra plecos (leopard frog plec)
  • Chocolate zebra (brown with black stripes)
  • Tiger zebra plecs (tiger plec)
  • Spotted zebra plec (some kind of pecoltia)
  • Yellow whiskered zebra plec (albino bristlenose)
  • False Zebra plec (Tiger shovelnose!!!!)
BEWARE! FISH STORES INVENT NAMES!

Just for clarification, smith was saying there are no other plecos that have the same stripe pattern as a true l46 hypancistrus zebra plec. Regardless of color. That's part of their charm, those bold horizontal stripes. :)
awww, smith feel like donating a few of those to the sad-american-zebra-wanting-individual-foundation???
Their definetly my new aquisition plan. A nice 30 gallon long breeding setup. I'm frothing

they prefer a meaty diet, wont eat algae - we have 2 in our planted tank - and its still got plants, so they wont eat them either ;)

they get to 4-5"

L134 ......and they are so so so cute :D :D :D our one is like a little bumble bee :D :D so glad I took smithrc's advice when I asked about what pleco's to get
