hello ive got yellow water after doing a water change how do i get it clear again?

Which of the aquasoils are you using? Mine was a little cloudy when I first set it up but cleared in a day and has been fine since. I do have carbon in my filter though.

im using acticated carbon in my filter already, initialy i had the same problem then it went away after the addition of AC and a few huge water changes but after this has come on since last nights water change and replant i have lovely beige water as again its aquasoil amazonia btw

anyone got any ideas? yellow waters not pretty to look at, could it be my hard water causing it? :(

my parameters are
ph 6.6 (was 7.4)
ammonia is 0 .25 (gone up from 0)
nitrate no3 is 5.0
nitrate no2 is 2.0

first check, pre black out was
ammonia 1.5
ph 7.4
no2 0.50
no3 10

Do you have any wood in the tank that could been seeping tannis (spelling) into the water?

I have the same soil and have not had any problems in the 3 weeks its been set up. I have been doing 30-40% water changes every 2-3 days though while it is cycling to try and fight the algae off. :)

i did the same for most of it, i did 50% water changes everyday for a week then 50% every 2 days then 50 every sunday
i do yeah but ive boiled the wood 4 times and had it soaking in a trough of water for more days than its been in the tank and it made no diffrence to the trough water at all, which means it must be the aquasoil?
ive bought some purigen to see if this helps
fingers crossed :)

yeah i use just tap water, and as far as i know its hard, i dont know how to check but if i could i would.
its kinda annoying that such an expencive product has gone so wrong :(
how would i treat my tap water to lower its hardness, and would this work or would i have to start using RO or DI water?

Is your water out of the tap and hard? Hard water can cause yellowing with Aqua Soil. That's why ADA released Aqua Soil Amazonian II.

Hmmm didnt know about that!

I basically have liquid rock here so suprised I havent been effected yet, tap water stats are GH 16°+ (16 is as high as my test kit goes), KH18°d and PH of 7.6-7.8 depending on which kit I trust.

Edit: looking at the tank again from the side there is a slight yellow tinge to the water. Dont really notice it from the front. Is there any side effect other then the water colouring??

i did have zero ammonia but it went back up to 0.5 it should be fine once 100% ground cover is reached i recon (yellow water that is) i hope so, i hope my hc picks up. ive ordered some purigen that should help too, you should have seen the water before i ran some carbon looked like a cup of tea!

Mine isnt that bad but I'm worried now :) I never noticed it before because the room the tank is in is painted bright yellow anyway. I dont mind a tannin stained water but I'm worried about exactly what it is that is being released to cause the water to turn yellow!

yeah same, i dont mind that its a little yellow but it swings so badly from being crystal to looking like a cupper in a few days i wish i knew what it was that caused it so i could stop it, or at least a way of keeping it in check. Its just so annoying that such a well respected premium product can do this when the competitors dont, you know what i mean? feels like ive been cheated, yes i get great plant growth but i got ada so i had less to worry about and its just not how its turned out.

To be fair, the potential yellowing of water has been documented. If you use ADA Amazonia you need to have done a little reading beforehand, because it can affect the KH when it is first used, and there is a huge ammonia spike for the first three weeks or so.

I have never had the yellowing of water, but my ammonia spike was off scale for a long time.

Dave.
