Hi all,

Within the next couple of weeks I have my upgrade arriving, a 28lx28wx13.5h braceless tank.

I wonder whether this will be suitable for a yellow tang? I intend to have a very minimal amount of rockwork so swimming space would be at a maximum (as I appreciate tangs love to swim) but I've been unable to find any resources owing to my somewhat obscure dimensions.

I have a feeling it won't be possible, if so do you have any recommendations for a fish of a similar nature?

Simon

Yellow Tang should be in a BARE MINIMUM 4 foot long tank... with 6 foot being more suitable. Unfortunately, that size tank wouldn't be large enough.

What kind of "nature" are you looking for? Big swimmers?
Might look at some dwarf angels like coral beauty or flame angels. Beautiful fish and very active.

Nemo, listed two excellent recommendations! I personally do not put tangs within aquariums, unless they are of 100 gallon+, and they're elongated. They appear, and flow much smoother amongst larger space...because the tangs are definitely one of the most energetic!

Thanks guys :good:

I had a feeling it was too small, I see some people house tangs in smaller tangs who claim to move them on when they get too big but it just doesn't seem fair doing that.

I have considered a flame angel, but as I plan to stock mainly LPS would be concerned at its potential to nip polyps.

In terms of nature I would like an active fish, a grazer and one who likes to swim between the rockwork. Maybe some form of wrasse?

Flame angels and coral beauties are considered to be the most reef safe of the dwarf angels... it's not impossible nipping won't occur, but it's much more less likely. Many on the forums here have either with no nipping.

Wrasses are great... I'm a wrasse lover. There are many flasher and fairy wrasses that would be great in a tank like that, you'd just want to stick with the smaller ones, around 3" in length.

Thanks Nemo,

It looks like I'll be going for a 4x2x2 now, so hopefully enough room for a single tang
