Yellow Danios?

Just added four yellow danios to my twenty gallon tank, which is now rather densely planted (I bought some more anubias while I was at it). Has anyone heard of this fish? They are small and very active (though somewhat frightened at the moment--they are hiding among my crypts). A google search turned up nothing, and I'd like to make sure I know how to take care of them. I assume they're just like the zebras, but I wanna make sure.

Thanks!

I have read that yellow Danios are male and silver Danios are female.

Zebra danios come from the coast of India. Plain old zebra danios grow to about 2 inches. Their body is a silver or plain with seven to nine bluish stripes. Between the stripes, males have gold while females have silver.

This came from the following web page, but I have seen it elsewhere.

Robyn's Danio Page

It would seem that yellow is just an ordinary Zebra Danio, albeit a male. When I had them, mine were all silver. I must have had all females.

They are great fish, but keep your tank covered. They hop out sometimes.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you have pearl danios. A much more likely candidate for "yellow" than the zebra, no?

Edit: The pearl danio

Oooooh, I just saw them called yellow danios on the web today, I was looking at fancy guppys with my daughter and we saw them - I'm sure the feeding is the same - just a color variant.

Thanks guys! The danios aren't really striped like the zebras. They've got an orange-yellow flourescence on the fins and on part of the body, much like the neon tetra does. They are very fast and beautiful, but have been terrorizing my tiger barbs :( My formerly-fearless barbs now hang out in the corners of the tank avoiding the danios at all costs. Is this normal? Will the barbs get used to them and fight back? Would it help if I added two more barbs (I have three currently, and was planning on getting more--but I don't want to add more if they'll be miserable!)?

Thanks again,

Uh-oh, sounds like you you have Glofish(tm). how much did they cost? Glow fish are man made genetically altered fish, that were injected with a gene from coral to give them florescence. they usually go for about $10 each.
Try doing a search and see if that's what you have.

Nope. Pretty sure they're not glo-fish, 'cause those were in the tank next to the one these were kept in. The Glo-fish are redish, with stripes, and are bigger than these. I originally thought they might be some other type of GM fish, but I read a bit, and I think glo-fish are the only GM fish currently on the market (corrections welcome!).

What is the matter with Glo-Fish??? :alien:

Sounds just like a gold danio... This is my long finned gold danio. Does he look anything like this? Keep in mind that mine is a VERY fertile female so yours is probably skinnier.

We have yellow danios at some lfs near my area, from what i remember they have stripes just like zebra danios.

Yes, I bought them at Old Town Aquarium, on Wells. They look a little like the long finned Danio, except their fins aren't particularly long. And their head isn't as pointed.
