i bought 2 yellow cichlids about 2 weeks ago and all they seem to do most of the time is sit at the bottom of the tank, is this normal for this type of fish or is there something wrong? please help

Do the cichlids look like the one in my profile picture? If so, they are Labidochromis Caereleus (Yellow Labs, or Electric Yellows). These are african cichlids and their requirements are completely different to the other fish in your tank. They need different PH value, different food and so on. If they are, I would recommend that you take them back to the lfs and trade them for something more suited to your other tank mates.

Sorry to be so negative...

yes they are the ones in the pic, but would my lfs let me swop them?

And another question what other food do they eat?

They are vegetarian fish

Actually Yellow labs are Omnivores or Insectivores to be precise - In the wild they feed primarily upon insects, snails, and mollusks.

hi again just reporting that my two yellow cichlids died within a day of each other not happy at all they are a beautiful fish, makes me wonder if they were ill when i bought them as within a day or two they were just sitting at the bottom, i have checked my water and that is ok all the other fish i have are doing fine, just pisses me off when you lose them  :-(

but thanks for your help anyway

they will take them back, take some water in so they can test it (just so they know your water is fine) and also if you still have the fish them too. :good: luck
