Very nice, Dieses Madchen. It looks like they could use some fattening up. Since you're in the US, find a good source of blackworms and add them to their diet. It will do them a world of good, especially if you intend to breed them.
Thank you for the advice Inchworm. I think they are still young as they were very small when i got them. Where might I find blackworms? And how do I feed them without my piggy livebearers getting this first? Do they come in a wafer? LOL
Dan has live and has recently added frozen and freeze dried. My Sterbai love the live. I'm sure that they would love the frozen as well but the minimum shipping on them is ~ 11 pounds. That's a lot of worms. I also got a sample pack of the freeze dried. My Cories like them but they don't sink very well. Lot's of more info on Simply Discus in the food section or in the vendor section under California Blackworms.
Call your LFS's. They may have the live shipped in.
Inquire if any of your lfs stock them. It's a good chance some of them will carry them. Locally, I can get them at any of the independent shops and at just one of the smaller chain stores. When you find them, you'll want to buy one "portion" which is about an ounce. If you haven't used them before, look at them before you buy them. They should have been stored in a pan and be barely covered with water. They should look clean and healthy. They don't age too well, especially if the store staff is too busy to rinse them out each day. Your best bet is to ask what day they come in and buy them while they are still fresh.
Well cleaned and healthy blackworms look like this:
It's going to be hard to keep livebearers from eating them up when you are trying to feed your corys. I would just put in enough for everyone.
Thank you very much Inchworm. I have a quite a few independent LFSs that I like to shop from. I personally wouldnt trust my chains with these. Heck, the chain I bought my cories from had one little cory swimming with the ones I bought (10g tank with about 50 guppies and about 10 albinos)and ALL of his fins were gone. Nipped off. I begged the store to let me take him. But they said they couldnt be responsible for selling me a defective fish. I have a quarantine tank and I would have healed the little guy up. He just needed some TLC
Thank you harlequins. And thank you everyone for the kind comments and advice. I really do love these little guys. I notice a big difference in activity level now. They are super hyper.
