well, today i had to drop off my brother at the airport so he could go to norway. and while doing that i bought 2 female gold gouramis from an lfs, then a male gold gourami from a different lfs. and i bought 2 mollies for my guppy/molly hybridization project. then i bought an L100 pleco from a breeder near me.

ill post pictures later.

a question though. i know i need virgin mollies to attempt to hybridize them with guppies otherwise they will just reject the sperm, and im thinking that maybe instead of breeding mollies then using the babies to insure that they are for sure virgins, could i just wait a few months, like maybe 2 or 3 and if they dont have babies by then just assume that they are virgin? they arent with any males right now.

After a few months, your new female will slow and finally stop dropping fry. For me it took over 6 months before I could breed mine without worrying about any previous contacts. That is still less time than growing out a sexually mature female molly from a fry though.

ok, ill just wait it out then

ill get pictures later today...

i even have a name for my (hopefully) male gold gourami... Tiger, youll see why later though

heres the pictures

i couldnt find my baby L100, so ill get a picture later, and my silver lyretail molly wasnt cooperating. but neither were my gouramis, but i got a few of them

my silver lyretail looks awesome too, but for some reason its hiding by the filter and heater, does anybody know why it would do that?

not sure the tiger is compatible with the other fish. i strongly advise moving him to a secure enclosure, with a large paddock and a pond for him to cool down when it gets too hot.

i colud take the tiger off your hands  And :S Maybe its just stress ? Or maybe she's pregant :hyper:

IF Not either one of them   she may be dieing :shout: ( Doubt it but you never know )

well, i havent noticed the other fish disappearing... yet... but i heard they only get 12 inches long, so i thought that i could have him in there for a while.

i hope she isnt dieing, that would suck... it would be cool if she was pregneant, and stress i could deal with

do they? well what size tank would it need at 12 inches? or maybe i could give it to my local zoo, because i dont have a local public aquarium.

at 12" they would need at least 500gals, as in the wild, they have huge territories, often of many square miles. i think that the safest option is to give it to a local zoo. or if your up for the challenge, you could try and keep him. obviously in his own tank, starting at about 200gals, and building up to 500gals, as he grows. they are primarily carnivores, so you should feed him a big chunk of meat, every other day at first, but dropping down to twice a week as he matures. may i say that he is a beautiful specimen, and i would definitely consider breeding from him, as they are very rare nowadays.

oh and by the way, make sure you wear protective gloves when cleaning his tank, as his teeth will be very sharp.

good luck :good:

lol, will do...

the gouramis and gold dust molly are settling in suberbly, and the silver lyretail molly was acting normal earlier today but now is back to hiding, and she is thin(ish), and not to an unhealthy degree, so shes deffo not prego.
