Overhere some of my videos of my red splifins (not to mix up with the Tamazula red splitfin for that's the Xenotoca Lyonsi). The males are the better colored ones. Females can show some orange on the flanks.

Overhere you'll see them adjusting to the temperatures of the outdoor tub in the backyard. These goodeids can withstand lows as 5°C. Most goodeids (so, not all) prefer lower temperatures anyways. Most are happy with water temperatures between 12-22°C. They can be kept at higher rates but if you do so, give them a break during the colder months at lower temperatures. Because I can assure you that they will do well at higher temperatures but they won't last long. So, be aware of what kind of goodeids you'd like to keep to keep them well. Eventhough they occur in Mexico, "most" of those goodeid species live in mountain area in colder water. Those that occur in cenotes, live in warmer water.
