Wow

i have no doubt that you can hack the client and set up your own private server, but that almost seems like it would take the fun out of it... although it's probably reallyreallyreally nice not to have the usual riff-raff running about screaming "b00b135!! lolololol"

its hardly hacking the client. someone with some programming knowledge and manages to get hold of the server software could open a WoW server and bring out their own patches.

its common for any mmorpg to have private servers. last i checked they arent actually illegal, just against the developers terms of service, which, by playing on a private server, you dont actually agree to :p

private servers are ok if you are just looking for something to do, but for mmorpg addicts they cant really cut it, having no funding and minimum staff they can be unstable and 'lawless'.

back on the topic of this thread, i dont play world of warcraft, its one of the only mainstream mmos i havent tried :p currently playing dark age of camelot (again)

Of course a mod wouldnt tell you about it either, you think he wants you to pay for WoW or do you think he wants you to get the free one.

Mods are hired by blizzard, typically college grads scrapeing together extra money. Im pretty sure that if they work for the developers, they dont have to pay for their service. It seems kind of pointless to play on a server where your the only one there, kind of defeats the purpose.

Your not the only one there.

 i'm more of a "software user" than "computer gamer" ;) so pardon my gaff. although, to reach level 150 in WoW, i do believe that some hacking would be necessary since 60 is the current highest one can reach officially and if my understanding is correct, this limit will not be raised until The Expansion is released.

but since you're busy with DAoC and not with WoW, this would appear to be a moot argument
