Of all the things I've done with my tank, I think tonight takes the cake. I've watched my fish have their little symbiotic thing between a goby and a pistol shrimp, I've watched my clowns fight for dominance before eventually pairing up, I've had peppermint shrimp and cleaner shrimp climb all over my handsoffering their services.... but just a few minutes ago... that was COOL.
Anyway, I walked out and looked in my tank, and saw a hermit crab sans shell walking around. Knowing that's not good for them, I wondered what had happened. I looked around and saw his shell stuck in a rock where he had crawled in and got it wedged. So, apparently he dumped his shell and set out for a new one. I looked around the tank and there was an empty turbo snail shell lying on the sand nearby, but he was going so slow and sticking so close to the rock, I knew he wouldn't go for it himself.
So I reached down and grabbed the shell, and moved it over close to him slowly to not freak him out. As I got close he tried to get under a rock and hide, then he stopped and waited for the shell. I finally got it close enough, and it jumped up, extended its torso from the bent little ball it was, stuck it into the shell, and hid real quick. I put him down and he started wandering around as happy as could be in his new home.
That was awesome
