ok, I have been researching and I have found a list of some of the fish that I could put into the tank when I get it.
The list is as follows ; * means the ones that I am mostly interested in getting and () = the amount
*Cory catfish (1)
-head and tail light tetra (4)
-white cloud mountain minnows (4)
*convicts (6)
-swordtails (4)
*guppies (4)
*tiger barbs (3)
*neon dwarf rainbows (6)
Would any of these work or would they all just start fighting? Also If any of these fish can go together without fighting etc. please tell me which ones and the size the tank should be
thank-you

How big is the tank going to be or did i miss that somewhere else? :)
I cant speak for the convicts or rainbows but the only thing that i would watch out for would be the tiger barbs with the guppies. Some (not all ;) ) tiger barbs cant resist the long flow finnage of a male guppy.
Perhaps some of the others here will speak on the convicts and rainbows for you.
Best of luck with the tank :)

20 or 40 gallons is a massive difference... so a lot depends on what size tank you end up with.

i would keep more that one cory though. also tiger barbs would do better in a bigger group of maybe 6. they tend to fight between themselves then rather than pick on anything else when in latger groups ;)

also. your likely to have convicts all over the place as they breed like rabbits. mind you so do guppies

Corys like to be kept in groups of at least three. I have a group of ten in my tank. I can't really tell you much about the convicts- but they grow to about 5 inches and can be aggresssive around breeding time. Always start with as big tank as you can afford- it gives you more margin for error. If for example, you put too much medication in, ina 5 gallon tank it could be lethal. However, ina 200 gallon tank the fish would hardly notice it. I'm not suggesting you go that big by any stretch of the imagination ( you could though  ). 20-40 gallons is a huge difference though. Judging by your asterixs this is probably your best set-up.

40 gallons
Filtration-canister filter
6 Cory cats
4 Convict ciclids
6 tiger barbs
6 neon blue dwarf rainbowfish
You may also want a pair of dwarf gouramis which I think would fit nicely.
