i want to add more water flow/movement to one of my tanks, if i got a new filter and put it in without the media would it affect the water chemistry.

this is purely for water movement and not for filtering

I would go with a powerhead.

There are many different sizes, so you could easily pick which size you want in relation to how much water you want to move.

A filter produces a current yes.

A filter and a powerhead are going to require about the same amount of energy (Electricity) to run, but for water movement, a powerhead is going to be more effective than a filter.

its only a 10g tank so wouldnt a powerhead be a bit over the top for it?s

probably id just go with a smallfilter with media in as it will just add a bit of filteration aswell

i agree with BAE

extra filtration works out better :)

or whynot just get a koralia powerhead?

if you use a filter you will also eventually have some mature media for another filter if you ned

It really comes down to what kind of fish you have in your tank, and if you have any live plants?

There are many different sizes of power heads, and you can get a smaller one for a 10 gallon.

But, another filter would do just fine, it just wont move as much water, current wise, as a power head would.

I guess it is up to you, and how much current you really want in your tank?
