Hi Ive got a coldwater set up at the minute which is actually more like a tropical at 74.F lol  I would like a pleco.. specially like the snowballs. I was just wondering if this would be even possible (or am I dreaming lol)obviously I know how big some plecos can get so thats why i wanted a smaller one.. last Q: The filter is a juwel filter system (not sure which) 600l p/hr.. would this be adequate with the waste plecos produce or am I looking at something bigger? Most of the fish I have at the minute will not be staying much longer as they will be retiring to the pond lol .. Any constructive advice greatly appreciated xx

Hi Amber,
Need to know what size tank you would be planning on keeping the Pleco in and how long it has been set up?

If I am correct it would be 180 litres, if it is that would be about 48 gallons, if you are rehoming your fish, I suggest you do it asap because I'm sure they really don't like the tank, the temp is too high and the tank is way too small. When your fish are rehomed, you could get a bristlenose pleco, and maybe a bulldog pleco. I'm not a pleco expert though so I'm sure someone else can give you more help.

I know Im trying to get the temp down I think its the hot weather so keepin windows open, fan on etc The fish are going in the pond soon so that wont be a problem, the reason we have so many is because my brother in laws tank "broke" lol and we had to do emergancy adoption  any other colder water plecos that would be ok once problems r solved? thanks for the replies xx

If you check out this pinned topic it will give you a better idea of suitable Plecos for your tank.

Plecos 8" and under

We keep our Pleco tank temperature at about 76-78F so you could do with raising the temperature slightly.

Chaetostoma sp. would be fine if that was your max temperature, they come from higher altitudes and therefore cooler temperature water.

they do like current though and lots of it so i would invest in a powerhead and it will sit in the flow all day long.

something like Chaetostoma sp1 should be easy to find, cheap (i paid 6 quid for mine) and stay at a size suitable for your tank. will be sold as bulldog or rubberlip plec probably

fyi there are more than one pleco sold as 'snowball' 2 completley different species, Hypancistrus and Baryancistrus
