I'm getting new 4" tank for christmas and in it will be going my 2 Albino Rainbow Sharks (approx 3" and 3 1/2") and my Red Tailed Shark (approx 4")

I was just wondering if I was to introduce a shoal of 5-6 corries would the sharks be aggressive towards them ?

I have been told by my LFS owner that he has never seen anything bother a cory but im not so sure as my sharks occasionally "attack" my tiger barbs; I wouldnt be surprised if they done the same to a cory.

I wouldnt want to buy some of these lovely fish and put them into a tank that is going to be a living hell for them so if anyone could please get back to me on this I would be more than grateful .

Thanks alot Richie !

How big is this tank you are going to put these fish in? You are aware the sharks will not get along, right? Red Tailed Black Sharks can get very aggressive towards any fish that resembles the same body shape as themselves. As for keeping them with cories, its probably a risk. RTBS will establish a territory in the tank and will most likely chase anything that comes near it, including cories.

Well i have a 3ft tank at the moment and everythings all kind of gone wrong . I started out with some tiger barbs . Then i bought 1 albino rainbow shark as he seemed not to be eating , I asked at my LFS and they said well he is a young fish and when they are young they are better in groups so i then purchased another about same size etc they are btoh fine together and are none agressive to other tank mates.

Then my cousin wanted rid of his red tail that was still very young at the time and he was just going to "flush it" if i didnt take it..... so i took it .

Everything was ok until it grew so quickly and is now the most dominant fish in the tank.

The sharks ddont really have a problem living together other than the albinos having to be very quick when snapping up food from the gravel or the red tail will just chase them away .

Ive added some PVC pipe under the gravel and it has worked quite a treat the Red tail hides in one of the pipes and when he is in it the Albinos scour the gravel eating to there hearts content .

They would all be going into a well planted 4ft tank with lots of hiding places and PVC pipes in the substrate !

So you think that this is a bad idea ..... adding the corries that is ?

Thanks Alot

Richie

I dont think I would risk it. I have seen how RTBS can be first hand. I had one that got extremely aggressive and I had to take it back. Cories are a very peaceful fish and dont like any aggression at all. If there are a lot of hiding places, then it might be alright. If the cories feel unsecure then they will most likely stay hidden all the time.

Good Luck :good:

Thanks alot ! as i say its only once in a while i see the sharks annoyin any other tank mates i think it should be ok ! but if i add them in and it all goes wrong i have more tanks to put the corries in so all is good !

Thanks again

Well if thats the case, why not put them in those tanks to begin with and not risk it?

Yeah well i guess i could do that ! but now all my plans have just changed

My mum was ordering me a 4ft x 15" x 12" tank for crimbo and the stand was only 20 pounds cheaper than the tank (comes fully kitted out lol)

So i just said mum we'll find something cheaper to put the tank on soo u may as well just get 2 of the 4 footers after a few seconds of debate she cracked and i now have 2 4ft tanks on there way to me :D

In one i will put the slightly agressive RTBS and in the other will go the 2 Albino Rainbow Sharks !

So the corries will have to go in with either or ! or they could get crammed into a crappy 2footer which i think would be kinda sad !

Do you think it would be less of a risk going into a 4ft tank with the 2 albinos as the pair of them both show no agression to each other or other tank mates at that matter ?

Thanks alot

Richie

I have read Albino Rainbow Sharks are not as aggressive as the others. I can't tell you either way because I have not ever kept them. I know you say "4ft tank," but how many gallons is this tank? Also, how many gallons is the 2' tank?

My to foot is only about 14 Uk gallons (24x15x12) and the 4 footers are (48x18x12) soo im guessing around 26-28 uk gallons maybe !

Thanks

Richie

But i have had an idea !

I might just keep the RTBS in the 2ft on his own !

Im certain hell be fine on his own theres plenty of room for him !

And put only 1 albino in each of the 4 foot tanks !

I think this would be much safer and would save alot of trouble !

I have a rainbow shark and 3 peppered corys in a heavily planted 230l tank. The rainbow will 'dart' at some mid water shoals of neons ect if they get to close to it's end of the tank but completely ignores the cory, even when feeding.

I think however you have it the more visual barriers the better.
