Hi All,

I was asked to look after a friends fish whilst he is on holiday. When I went round to check on them I discovered this rather large beast in his tank, I dont know about plecs or cats. Could someone please I.D him for me please. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Gibbiceps (Sailfin Plec) to me.

I think he is a Common Pleco, Liposarcus Pardalis. I only have one Pleco and he looks like that one. Mine is 12" (including tail).

This one is a little over 13". I was a bit surprised when I first saw him.

Yeah he's a monster alright but probably still growing. He's definately a common or a sailfin, a picture of him with his fin upright would confirm either way.

same here, looks like a gib to me, i have 1 half the size, at around 5".

I have been and had a close look at my Pleco and I agree that is a Gibby. Sorry. It will get a lot bigger than mine.

The thread still serves a purpose as a means of identifying sailfin plecs, the pics are good and clear and show a classic example of a sailfin plec .
