Ok...I got a 1g aquarium setup for my foster betta.(I already wish it were bigger  ) This fish has been getting regular water changes and has established gravel. So I am wondering if I could start off the new home with water and gravel from the current home.Any suggestions?

Thanks

i always put the old gravel in the new tanks, but the real thing that u need is a filter. thats what needs to cycle. id say buy one if u dont have 1 and cycle the tank. u can cycle them w/some fish like feeder guppies or a danio i think, that minght make the cycling faster. but id wait to put they betta in there until its cycled.

It's only a gallon but comes with a lighted hood, undergravel filter, and air pump.I'm getting ready to set it up now.I do hope it will prove to be a suitable home once everything is cycled. It has to be a step up from sharing a small vase with a large plant  I put a 55g setup on layaway and am looking forward setting that up for my bigger fish and using the 10g for something else.MTS claims another willing victim :D

i think anything is a step up from what they keep those fish in in the stores. they even keep the females in those. i dont know if they know that they can all live together though.

what do u have, a male or female?

I have 2 males. One is my own and one is a fish I rescued from the Y daycare where I work. They thought he was dead or dying because he was always hanging out up in the roots of the plant.I really thought I was just going to be saving them the unpleasant task of dealing with the loss with the kids and all.But when he came out he was quite obviously a beautiful and healthy fish in spite of his cramped quarters.I let them know they could get this setup for him but so far they haven't.I'm sorta hoping they'll never get around to asking for him :D

If you're just keeping him in a small tank like that without a filter, then you don't have to cycle the tank. Just change the water twice a week and the betta will be fine.

I got it together and the little pump is going.Very quiet and looks nice with the light on.I used some gravel from his old home and I think I'll give it at least a couple of days to get settled.I do hope the pump won't create too much current for his liking. It bubbles quite a bit but I suppose I can find a way to slow it up some.Of course,if he stays around he may eventually inherit the 5g...... :D
