Worst Way You Have Ever Kept Fish

There is no way I would put anything bad that I had done on the internet even the inadvertent poor treatment of a fish. With so many litigious people in the world today it wouldn't surprise me if in the future something like this would come back to haunt me.

Hmm, but then again those that would sue someone for doing something as a kid should also sue themselves for all the creatures they may have killed or tortured as children. o_O

I get haunted alright, but by my own memory...
Funny though, I didn't think someone may chase me one day for not knowing what a filter was ;)

When I got my cat from the animal welfare they didn't even ask me one question. I might as well have been getting it for dinner for what they knew. Never mind

Yeah, me too for some deaths that resulted from my stupidity while others out of hatred (but that was also a result of my own stupidity).
Like not knowing that Hoplo catfish can and WILL jump overboard. And they did. Well, good thing for the intestinal breathing. They survived till morning when either I or my parents found them. Only one death because of escaped catfish, and that was when Rex jumped on Christmas eve in front of the door of the balcony and froze to death :( He was my favorite fish back then and I was very sad.

I've had 3 cats, one at a time, all males. First was Mota, a golden tabby stray. Lived 8 years, died of brain cancer, but was smartest cat I ever had. I had a serious depression when he died, as I was only 10 and was alone the day the cat died in my arms.
Second was Mishu, his son with the neighbor's cat. Died at same age, 8 years, of liver cancer. The vets had no idea and prescribed us some medicine that didn't do him any good. Dad took him to another vet who said that the first vets were idiots and scammers for tricking us into buying that product they sold.
Third was Mitzury, a tuxedo cat or something like that. Lived only 6 years, as he was born infected with FIV. We got him from a neighbor and he was really skinny. I should have known there was something wrong with him, as he had frequent indigestion all his life and been to the vets and they had no idea until one vet suddenly found out what might be wrong. Tested for Leukemia and FIV, turned out it was FIV. Cat died one month after diagnosis in 2010.
Now I have no cat, I miss all of them, but Mitzury the most. :(
Here's my favorite pic of him.

Well, meet Shrek the cat. He is living in a overcrowded human tank, but survived the dinner scare. I had run out of sauce for the cat stew. This was just taken now.

Aww, so adorable! X) And he does look like Shrek. I see why you named him that. O.O
I just noticed though that this is fish emergency section and we're discussing about pets X))) Shouldn't this be in pets area?

I don't think I'll be winning the pet competition available on this forum though
He wasn't the best looking one, but had the best heart and still does five years later. He had fallen from a 4th floor and has pins in his legs and pelvis. The vet said he can get arthritis any time now.

Strangely, the last two times (over period of 20 years) we've adopted a dog we were given the third degree about how we would look after it despite having hard evidence of previous, long-term ownership of dogs. I call them the Rehoming-Gestapo AKA the RSPCA; I expect a lot of quality owners gave up when confronted with their holier-than-thou attitude.

PS Oops, just realised, as I see someone has also pointed out, this is now in the wrong section. I shall refrain.

I don't have any dramatic stories really. Always wanted a pet; my mother bought a less than 2ft fish tank and bought myself and my siblings a fancy goldfish fish each. My fish died, so I was bought a replacement, which went all hannibal on the other fish. I had that fat pale fancy goldfish for 9 years.

My other half's family had a tank with two big black moors way back. They died when a younger brother tucked the fish into bed to read them a story... kind of sweet in a twisted way... :S

That probably depends where you got it from. I went without a cage even as I only intended to have a look around(not that I had a cage). They gave me a cage that I had to drop off later. The only thing I was really asked was if I am going to keep the cat inside the house, which I confirmed and then the lady only advised not to open doors/windows for at least 3 weeks until he settles. She put him in the cage and gave me the papers. I had to pay about 80 euro and here I went with a new cat. She did say though to bring him straight in if I change my mind.

o_O Lol. I used to tuck my turtle into bed when I was younger. Now I don't think she would like that anymore. She doesn't like to sit on my pillows now.
If instead of a moore it were a hoplo, I think they would have survived to be found and put into the aquarium though.

All my cats used to roam free outside, as my mom disliked having to buy cat litter. But for the last 2 years of Mitzury's life, we used cat litter and I cleaned it every time. I have some awkward moments to remember with that, especially while having guests... @_@

Sorry, I opened the thread in the wrong place. I really meant tropical discussions, not emergencies

Well, now it may be fit for pets too X)))
Maybe moderators can move it to wherever it belongs.

When I first started a year ago, I thought it was as easy as adding water. No dechlorinator, not cycled, and 10g stocked with 3 bala sharks and 2 powder blue gouramis and a common pleco.

That is some stocking for a 10G

My parents would not buy fish or any animal for me, so that's what had saved me from adding more trophies to that tank. And when I started with guppies I didn't know why the babies kept disappearing. It never crossed my mind a parent would eat their babies so I had little survivors

I did get hold of a pair of hamsters one day. Hamsters breed like rabbits, or no, my bad... they breed like rats  I ended up with 30-ish hamsters at any one time for years along with the fish. At some stage I had a fish tank full of hamsters and several buckets with also 2-3 hamsters in each one of them
I didn't manage to get fish survive in a bucket, but hamsters in a fish tank is no problem
Yeah, but boy did I learn from those mistakes, and now (ironically) I have a paranoia about overstocking lol

Guppies must be a nightmare for you then. X)) (if kept with females).
Though I somehow never got an excess of guppies, it was probably worse than survival of the fittest for them. They had to survive till they were big enough to not get eaten, in a separate tank with no filter (then again my main tank didn't have a filter for more than a week and my mother told me to get rid of it cause she hated the noise...) . Lucky that about 10 survived every time. Others were usually born malformed or weak so they died within the first weeks.

At least my catfish and the swordtails now have one.
