hi i am kinda new to the hobby had my tank just over 2 months now, did all the cycling tested my water yesterday everything was how its supposed to be zero WOOT and i do the 25% once a week water change.i have a 20 uk gal. however a couple of my fish have long trails of waste hanging from them and they have rapid gill movement. whats the problem? how do i treat it? and will any meds affect my filter bacteria?

thanx!

The white is possibly their poo? This can be from stress in the tank.

How many fish do you keep in the tank and what kinds?
IS the water agitated at the surface?

Well, long strands of poo aren't uncommon for fish lol. If they are white, it could be a sign of constipation. Feed your fish a thawed out, pealed, frozen pea, and that should help to ease the constipation.

Is your water crystal clear? in my experience rapid gill movement is from poor water quality.
Keep an eye on them for a week - as said feed them some shelled peas, and if it is constipation it should clear in that time (or mine did anyway) - just the gill movement sounds abit wierd. Have you introduced anything new to the tank, fish/live plants?
